In 2019, Shahid Kapoor starrer Kabir Singh released, which was a box office success. However, a lot of people bashed the film for glorifying toxic masculinity. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film also stars Kiara Advani in the lead role.
There are scenes where Shahid’s character Kabir doesn’t treat Kiara’s character with respect in the film. His abusive and dominating nature has left a bitter impression on the minds of many cine-goers. Yet, some fans love the movie just like Kapoor.
On the other hand, there’s Imtiaz Ali’s 2007 romantic comedy Jab We Met. In the film, Shahid Kapoor plays Aditya, a guy who’s nice, sweet and respectful towards women. Also starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, the film is another biggest hit of Shahid’s career. JWM also has a huge fan following.
Today, Shahid did a Q&A session with his fans on Twitter. A fan asked him which is movie he would choose – JWM or KS? The actor answered – Kabir. His answer has divided Twitter as some are bashing him for still promoting the toxic film while others are swooning over it.
On Twitter user wrote, “imagine picking kabir over the not so toxic masterpiece that jab we met is. this is what’s wrong with society.” Another tweeted, “Hated Kabir’s character a lot. There’s just something special about Aditya from Jab We Met.”
“Only “toxic” people will find a non-realistic , fictional char like Kabir singh so triggering ???????? Shahid has given one of his best performance in this movie. The process was difficult as well. What’s wrong if he chooses this movie which gave him a blockbuster. STOP JUDGING????”, tweeted a fan.
