JUNG_E Plot/Synopsis

In the 22nd century, things have gotten bleaker, the earth is dying, and humans have decided to settle in pods hurtling through space. Whatever peace they thought they would have in these places is short-lived. The Netflix description of this movie reads, “In a post-apocalyptic near-future, a researcher at an AI lab leads the effort to end a civil war by cloning the brain of a heroic soldier — her mother.” A soldier is called on a mission, and her daughter sends her reluctantly with a talisman of love.

However, this talisman is lost, and the soldier is hurt terribly. She is unable to wake up while her daughter grows up to be a researcher at an AI lab. They use the mother’s consciousness to create an ultimate soldier, an ultimate weapon ready to attack anyone they are programmed to. A high loyalty rate and tactical skills are sure to make the late soldier a hero in the eyes of the military and the citizens of the settling community.

While they create an army of invincible soldiers, the daughter sees what she has given birth to. A cloning attempt without thinking of the ethical implications and consequences. The title finally makes sense when one of the generals calls the programme JUNG_E. A battalion of soldiers is seen wearing the same face. They may have feelings and may even feel pain but the knowledge that they are not human excuses this violent behaviour.

However, when the daughter finally comes to her senses and decides to take charge of it, she frees one of the soldiers. All hell breaks loose, and a chaotic sequence of events is set in motion. The military all come together to find her. Scientists are running around, automation is raiding the rooms, and generals are losing their biggest weapon.

This film aims to raise some poignant questions about the intersection of cloning and AI, the ethical implications and the national consequence of putting something like this into effect.
