Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 1-2 Recap

These episodes show Japan is now in complete disarray. It is like a wasteland where former heroes of the Shibuya Incident are labelled as criminals. Yuji chooses not to return to Jujutsu High and instead operates on his own. He teams up with Choso to exterminate as many curses as possible. Once sworn enemies, Choso now stands firmly by Yuji’s side after learning he is Yuji’s blood brother.

The season also introduces Naoya Zenin, a deeply unpleasant yet exceptionally skilled sorcerer. He is a massive misogynist who has a warped sense of the world and starts to fight with Choso. His presence naturally puts him at odds with Megumi because, in his place, Megumi has now become the head of the Zenin clan.

One of the most striking developments is the confrontation between Yuji and Yuta. At first, Yuta hunts Yuji down, but then reveals his true motive of actually being an ally.

The episode begins with all the important characters gathering together and talking with Tengen regarding some really important matters. Right off the bat, they do not waste time and go straight into what Kenjaku’s actual goal is. Apparently, he wants a forced evolution of humans across all of Japan. And the way he wants to do it is by assimilation between all humans and Tengen. This was impossible before, but after the death of the star plasma vessel, Tengen went on to evolve, making the assimilation very much a possibility now.

That is not all, the first half of this episode fills you up with a lot of information, specifically on why Tengen needs bodyguards now. There is a high possibility that what Kenjaku plans to do can cause mass destruction, and to stop that, someone must protect Tengen at all costs. But the most important fact that came out from this segment is that Toji was the one whose intervention single-handedly created the basis for most of the mess that we see today in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.

The rest of the episode goes into making the audience understand the rules and regulations of the Culling Game and what the characters must do now to prepare for that. Needless to say, next time we will be seeing Maki going to the Zenin clan and wreaking havoc because she must get her hands on something that can help them win the Culling Games. This episode was very much a preparatory episode that was equipping the audience for the upcoming massive battles.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 3 Review

I must say the animation quality of this anime is off the charts. The level of quality and consistency this season has delivered is honestly remarkable. I am thoroughly impressed with MAPPA’s outstanding job with Jujutsu Kaisen.

This episode felt necessary, especially since the rules of the Culling Game are complex. The audience really needed a clear explanation to help make sense of it all. That said, the nonstop flow of information was a bit overwhelming. Still, it is hard not to be excited about what lies ahead. And honestly, for me, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is quickly becoming one of the best anime ever.
