Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 14 Review: The Ultimate Battle of Power and Wits Unfold

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 14 Review: In Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 14, the sorcerers face an incredibly strong foe which can lead to fatal consequences. The fourteenth episode titled “Fluctuations” of the anime series premiered on October 26, 2023. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 (呪術廻戦 or Sorcery Fight) is directed by Sunghoo Park, the show is animated under MAPPA Studio. With Sayaka Koiso and Tadashi Hiramatsu designing the characters, Yoshimasa Terui is the sole composer of the series. Tatsuya Kitani performed the opening theme, Where Our Blue Is (青のすみか), while Soushi Sakiyama performed the ending theme, Light (燈).

The anime is scheduled for two cours, the first five episodes adapted the manga’s Hidden Inventory arc, and the upcoming eighteen other episodes will showcase the Shibuya arc. Licensed under Crunchyroll, the episodes will be available with English subtitles, and the dubbed version will be released later on.

Based on the manga series of the same name by Gege Akutami, the story follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers in order to kill a powerful Curse named Ryomen Sukuna, of whom Yuji becomes the host. However, the new season will consist of various aspects of the story which the audience has been wondering about. Each episode has a runtime of 20-25 minutes.

With the new episode, the plot takes a different direction showcasing other sorcerers of the jujutsu world. Nanami, Maki and Naobito get together to defeat a common foe who is much stronger than initially expected. Moreover, the episode ends on a surprising cliffhanger that leaves everyone wanting more.

One of the major aspects of the series is that Gege does not just rely on the protagonist to reel in the audience but also builds a story around the villains. He humanises the antagonists and the creators of the anime have captured the mangaka’s vision and brought it to life. This time the sorcerers have to face Dagon, who looks deceivingly unthreatening but possesses a lot of power.

Dangon is in alliance with Mahito and Kenjaku (Pusedo Geto) and he constantly calls out their names, specifically Jogo and Hanami. It can be seen that he was visibly affected by Hanami’s death and wanted to avenge her. Moreover, he instantly lashed out when the sorcerer called him a cursed spirit instead of taking his name and treating him with less respect.

Additionally, the new episode introduces intricate techniques that are extremely fascinating. Including a narration in each episode proves to be an excellent decision made by the production as it allows the audience to understand what is being shown on-screen. Many basic everyday concepts are incorporated by giving it a significant twist with supernatural abilities which makes it stand out in the realm of anime.

However, the studio maintains the animation quality of the episode like the previous ones. Every single frame captures the essence of the characters, even when they are moving at a supersonic speed. Moreover, an incredible use has been made of the wide camera angles to capture and build suspense during an intense sequence.
