The second season of the fantasy crime drama starts with Luna’s venture to locate her father Eric (who transformed into a complete entity in the previous season) along with the magical leader, Inês. Moreover, the continuation also spans off into another greed-driven search for ‘Marangatu’s Gold’, which forms the basis of the parallel track in the show.

As Luna’s search for her father reaches a dead end, the enigmatic teenager decides to summon a wicked spirit in order to find Eric. She even cracks a deal with the spirit without knowing the repercussions of the decision and ends up putting everything at stake. What happens next, leads to another round of hunch for Eric, with the addition of entity powers to back his detective skills.

Invisible City Season 2 keeps up with the stunning backdrop of the underground world and raises the bar for the mythological-based show. Notably, the series is set in a world that is both humane and magical, therefore blending the emotions of the characters with the supernatural elements of the story. The season also makes great use of the entity verse and expands it in terms of new spirits and characters.

One of the core strengths of the series is the arc of the protagonist, Eric, which forms a complete circle in the second season. For the unversed, he was initially portrayed as a sceptical sleuth with little to no faith in the power of supernatural elements. However, it is quite clear that the events have formed a complete circle around his belief system.

In a way, Eric is our gateway to the mythological story who provides a transitory point of view. For instance, the world of spirits and creatures from folklore isn’t imposed on us directly, but rather introduced and scaled, one step at a time.

The show’s pacing is also a strong point. The series manages to balance the fantastical elements of the story with the procedural aspects of Eric’s attempt to find Luna. The show also avoids falling into the trap of overtly simplifying the mythology and backstory of the world, instead allowing us to discover the secrets of the hidden world alongside the characters.
