Invincible is an adult animated superhero series that is based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman. The series stars voice actors including Steven Yeun, Sandra Oh, Jason Mantzoukas, Zachary Quinto and J. K. Simmons, alongside others. Invincible episode 8 is directed by Jeff Allen.
Invincible Episode 8 Recap
Invincible episode 8 is absolutely horrifying and heartbreaking to watch. The series, which has only gotten better over the course of its episodes, delivers a great finale and promises more to come. It’s also absolutely bloody and disturbing to watch.
Invincible episode 8 starts off where it ended in the last episode, with Omni-Man murdering The Immortal right in front of Mark’s eyes. He’s obviously very confused about it and this is where Omni-Man spills the beans about his real identity and plans. It’s a heart-breaking watch for all. I, personally, had thought that was a lot more than meets the eye with the Omni-Man and Cecil situation, however, it turns out to be more disturbing than anything.
Let me take a moment here to say that Omni-Man is absolutely trash and does not deserve the loving family that he has. He’s so power-hungry and “righteous” that he is ok with throwing away what he has. Additionally, he calls Debbie his pet and no one insults Sandra Oh like that.
Obviously, Mark is not happy with Omni-Man’s and the Viltrumites’ idea about taking over Earth and basically colonising it. It’s disturbing to see that Nolan thinks of his home of so many years and its people as nothing more than ants that he can just swat away. Moreover, Omni-Man also doesn’t shy away from telling Mark that it wouldn’t matter to him if his son dies, he can just make another one. Disgusting.
Anyway, the family feud in Invincible episode 8 results in massive destruction around the world. Hundreds and thousands of people die and this is a grisly sight to see. While Omni-Man beats his son senseless, he also kills so many people just to prove a point. Mark, however, does not bow down to his father’s senseless demands and keeps resisting him, which ends up with him lying senseless and bloody at the foot of the Himalayas (I am guessing).
This is where the most heart-shattering moment comes, for me. As Omni-Man is punching his son’s face into a pulp, he remembers a baseball game that Mark participated in when he was a kid. Mark’s toothless smile then and his toothless and bloody body lying on the ground now probably ignite a tiny sense of fatherhood in Nolan and he screams at Mark – who will you have when everyone you know is gone after 500 years? Mark replies, crying, I’ll have you, dad.
Not gonna lie, I cried.
Omni-Man flies away, no one knows where, and Debbie and Cecil are left to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives. Obviously, everyone associated with Nolan rethinks the relationship that they had with him and it is all-around sadness and hopelessness. I cannot imagine Debbie’s state of mind, knowing that your husband thinks so little of you, or nothing at all, must be devastating.
However, Invincible episode 8 ends with us seeing that there are tons of bad guys to defeat for Mark and the Guardians of the Globe. However, it is safe to say that this isn’t the last we have seen of Omni-Man and the Viltrumites.
Invincible Season 1 has been an absolutely great show from start to end. It started off innocently and had the high-school vibes to it, but increasingly became more urgent and serious. Invincible episode 8 is absolutely horrifying and saddening but it creates precedence for a great show that I can’t wait to watch more of.
