The new Netflix true crime documentary Into the Deep unravels the submarine murder case of Swedish Journalist Kim Wall, by Danish inventor and entrepreneur Peter Madsen. The one-hour twenty-seven-minute documentary is a chilling and suspense-filled watch that uncovers itself layer by layer.
The documentary is directed by Emma Sullivan and was filmed in Copaneghan, Denmark.
Into the Deep Ending Explained
Like every other true crime documentary, Into the Deep starts with the inception of the crime itself. Peter Madsen, an entrepreneur, submarine engineer, and a probable rocket scientist- takes Journalist Kim Wall underwater, inside his submarine. The journalist accompanies him to cover the story of his inventions and achievements for a reputable publication. However, things don’t go according to plan and both Kim and Peter disappear in mysterious circumstances.
After a while, the entrepreneur emerges and informs the press that the submarine sank. Thereby generating the most important question, What happened to Kim Wall?

The events that the documentary explores initiated after 10th August 2017. That is when Peter and Kim disappeared and everything went awry. After watching the documentary, we know that Peter was taken into custody, and much later Kim’s corpse was finally recovered. However, the exact nature of happenings on the submarine forms the bulk of the film footage.
At first, Peter provides a completely different report of the events. He informs the investigative team that he dropped Kim off and went back again inside the submarine. Ultimately it sank, hence leading to his disappearance. ( All of which seemed suspicious and had no evidence to follow). When the strange inventor learns about the loopholes, he changes his report and comes up with a new chronology of events.
The way Peter alternates his version of the story hints at the fact that he is trying to manipulate everyone. The documentary then leads with more evidence describing his true nature.

The footage before the disappearance foreshadows the signs of Peter being a psychopath. Later when the evidence compiles, everything makes sense.
Peter finally admits the fact that Kim died in the submarine. But covers the story with the pretext of an accident. However, it is already late for him to cover any more loopholes, as the case approaches a trial.
In the end, justice is served and Peter is sentenced to life imprisonment. The horrific deeds that he committed on the submarine are matched with evidence, including the film footage itself.
The documentary is a chilling revelation about the dual nature of a human, and the extreme end of psychological crimes that he can commit.

This was one of the most riveting films I’ve ever watched. It looks like a found footage film, but don’t be fooled. Everything you see is real. It gets more disturbing as the trial progresses and the final few minutes are simply bone chilling.
