Insiders Say Trump Might Drag JD Vance Down With Him Amid Iran Talks, Hungary Election Loss

Times appear challenging for Vice President JD Vance. The 41-year-old has faced a series of political setbacks that could affect his standing. President Donald Trump recently dispatched Vance to Pakistan to negotiate a peace deal involving Iran. However, after 21 hours of discussions, no agreement was reached, and the conflict continues.

Vance was also sent to Hungary to express support for Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who had held power for 16 years. Despite Vance’s visit and statements of solidarity, Orbán lost the election to rival Péter Magyar.

A report by The New York Times noted that Vance had emerged as a dissenting voice within the administration regarding military action against Iran. According to the report, the vice president described the move as “a huge distraction of resources” and “massively expensive.”

Trump proceeded with the strike on Iran despite those concerns. Vance’s reported stance appeared to contrast with that of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has expressed consistent support for the president’s position. During Vance’s visit to Islamabad, Rubio accompanied Trump to UFC 327 in Miami.

Both Vance and Rubio are considered potential candidates for the 2028 presidential election. While Trump has publicly praised both figures and has not indicated a preference, recent developments could influence future political dynamics.

Trump’s approval ratings have also shown signs of decline, alongside Vance’s recent challenges. CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten reported that Vance’s favorability rating has dropped by 21 points since January 2025. Enten said Vance “is not doing too well at this point” and noted a broader decline alongside the president.

Once a vocal critic of Trump, Vance’s political rise accelerated after joining the administration as vice president. However, recent reports suggest tensions over his cautious stance on military action.

Vance’s personal life has also drawn public attention. His wife, Usha Vance, recently described him as “funny and nice,” though the remarks received mixed reactions online. Speculation about their relationship has circulated on social media, including unverified claims linking Vance to Erika Kirk, the widow of the late Charlie Kirk.

Shortly after the speculation, the couple announced they are expecting their fourth child. As scrutiny continues in both his personal and professional life, Vance’s political trajectory remains closely watched.
