I’m Getting Married to a Girl I Hate in My Class Overview

I’m Getting Married to a Girl I Hate in My Class is a Japanese romantic comedy light novel series, penned by Seiju Amano and illustrated by Nanami Narumi.
It began its journey as a YouTube manga on the Manga Angel Neko Oka channel in March 2020. Since December 2020, Media Factory has published nine volumes under the MF Bunko J label.

The story centers on high schooler Saito, who is unwillingly tied in marriage to his classmate, Akane. Though their personalities frequently clash, their chaotic journey as newlyweds is only getting started, promising plenty to unfold.
A manga adaptation illustrated by Mosskonbu has been serialized on Kadokawa Shoten’s Shōnen Ace Plus website since May 2021, with six tankōbon volumes released to date. An anime adaptation, co-produced by Studio Gokumi and AXsiZ, is scheduled to debut in January 2025.
I’m Getting Married to a Girl I Hate in My Class Episode 1 Review

The quintessential Romcom of winter 2025 is here, and it’s not something that you have not seen before. The story is pretty basic, with the heirs of two powerful families being forced to get married by their grandparents.
The girl is a classic Tsundere who is definitely in love with the male lead but is too shy to accept it. The guy, on the other hand, just does not care about who likes him but still manages to get the attention of all the important ladies in his circle. Sounds familiar? Well, it should because there are plenty of shows like this.

Akane, as a heroine, comes off as cute but also a bit annoying when she throws tantrums for no reason. Meanwhile, Saito strives to remain composed even under pressure. However, his world is turned upside down when he’s forced into an unexpected marriage with Akane, the girl he despises most. At least, he understands there’s nothing he can do if he wants to inherit the family business.
Thus, the marriage just takes place, and things move so fast that on the very same day, the couple moves in together and must sleep on the same bed because otherwise, how can we get the heart-thumping moments? And just like in every other anime with reluctant relationships, here, as well, they must work together to keep their relationship a secret from their friends at school.

I would say the best part about this show is that it is familiar. You know what you are getting yourself into, but this familiarity is also its biggest flaw. Not a single moment of this episode felt new or out of the box. Everything went in the way I expected, and the characters acted just how they were supposed to.
Verdict

The animation is also very basic, and you could feel the production value not being much. It is still one episode, so there’s obviously not much to say, but I do not have very high expectations from this. If you are looking for a relatable anime that will have all the basic romcom and harem tropes, then this one is for you.
But I will still continue this series in the hopes that this anime will be better.
