I Killed Bapu is a biographical drama on Zee5 which looks into the reason why Nathuram Godse took the extreme step of assassinating Gandhi and becoming the most hated assassin in the history of India. Directed by Hyder Kazmi, the film stars Sameer Deshpande, Rajesh Khatri, Mukesh Kapani, Akshay Verma, Nagesh Mishra, Umashankar Goyenka and other cast members.

The film brings about a sense of criticism towards Gandhi’s actions and his desire for leadership which made him the reason why many lives were lost during the partition of India.
Godse brings to light the deeds of Gandhi which did more harm than good for the country and how his actions of killing him can be justified. Bringing in a simple setting of a courtroom and a few other scenes which flash by, the film is not an entertainer but a look into a chapter in history which is usually overlooked.

However, while it focuses on the justification of Godse’s actions, it also brings out the injustice and suppression faced by the Hindu community during the time. The film mainly follows a monologue of the assassin which is played very well by Sameer Deshpande as he captures the attention of the viewers with his calm recollection of the past and the actions of Gandhi. While the cinematography may be a little lacking, the storyline keeps the viewers intrigued, especially if they have not seen anything related to Godse.
Meanwhile, this film also portrays Gandhi in quite a negative light for most of the part while also showing him as quite a petty character. So we can say that the film does have some bias when portraying the characters which can leave the viewers feeling a strong sense of negativity. However, this can also be because this is a biography of Godse and carries a wish to justify his actions.
