Hyper Knife Ending Explained
The series opens with Se-ok performing an exceptional brain surgery on someone, the video of the surgery gets leaked to the police, and they contact Choi Deok-hee to learn more about the surgery and the person performing it. Deok-hee recognises Se-ok immediately, although he doesn’t give it away, and finds out her whereabouts to meet her. There’s clearly some tension between the pair, and his visit brings up unpleasant memories for Se-ok, who is immediately enraged.
What’s the connection between Se-ok and Deok-hee?
We see in flashes that Se-ok was a brilliant doctor whose capabilities left all of her professors impressed. Unfortunately, she was also a bit odd for most people’s liking, although Deok-hee had taken a special interest in her. He took her under his wing and taught her everything that he could, but eventually, Se-ok’s desperation took over. After she was rejected for a grant, she reacted violently in front of Deok-hee, who banned her from performing surgeries. But, a year later, she performed one when Deok-hee was away, and eventually her license was revoked.

Why did Deok-hee come back?
In the present, Deok-hee comes back to meet Se-ok after watching the surgery video provided by the police. Having been diagnosed with Brainstem glioma, he asks her to perform the complicated surgery because he is aware that no one else can do a better job than her. Unfortunately, Se-ok refuses to do so, even threatening to paralyse him so that he won’t be able to perform surgeries in the future. However, Deok-hee tells her that he will give her medical license back and send her to Boston if she saves his life.
However, she vehemently opposes this idea and refuses to save his life under any circumstances. Deok-hee retaliates by reporting their businesses to the government, which results in a 30-day suspension. In the end, Se-ok takes revenge by trying to humiliate Deok-hee at an awards ceremony, but that doesn’t work out as expected.

Why did Se-ok change her mind?
Later on in the series, Se-ok realises that Deok-hee wasn’t completely honest about the depth of his diagnosis, and it is actually much worse than they had anticipated. With this new information in mind, she realises that she will soon lose her mentor if she doesn’t act fast. The thing about Se-ok is that she desperately wanted to be seen for who she is by someone, and accepted, and Deok-hee was that person for her. She looked up to him and idolised him, and regardless of whatever happened between them, she was still obsessed with her mentor. The thought of losing him was an overwhelming concept for her that left her heartbroken and desperate.
There’s also the factor that Deok-hee was quite smooth-talking and manipulative from the get-go, taking Se-ok under his wing and giving her encouragement but then turning around and taking it away, not telling her things that he was obviously doing. In the end, these two people were more alike than he cared to admit, and thus he landed in her hands to be saved.

What happens in Hyper Knife episode 8?
In the Hyper Knife finale, Se-ok tries to save Deok-hee after killing Yang Dong-yeong, who almost killed Se-ok, by performing the surgery, but he refuses. In the end, he does come back to get the surgery from her, and she gets ready to help him get back on his feet, even though the chances of his survival are slim to none. The reason Deok-hee decides to go to Se-ok in the last possible minute is to teach her a lesson — that she can’t save everyone when she gets inside an operating room. However, Se-ok has other plans in mind.
