Hush Hush Review: Juhi Chawla, Soha Ali Khan, and Others Keep You Guessing in the Mystery Thriller

Amazon Prime Video’s Hush Hush series stars Juhi Chawla as Ishi, Ayesha Jhulka as Meera Yadav, Soha Ali Khan as Saiba, Kritika Kamra as Dolly, Shahana Goswami as Zaira and Karishma Tanna as cop Geeta. Created by Tanuja Chandra, the series is written by Shikhaa Sharma, Juhu Chaturvedi and Ashish Mehta. The episodes are directed by Tanuja, Kopal Naithani and Ashish Pandey.

The Hindi thriller series has 7 episodes of 40-45 minutes each. The synopsis reads, “After a strange encounter at a party, four friends find themselves hurling down a rabbit hole of lies, deceit and secrets. As their safe, privileged world turns dark and dangerous, the secrets they keep become the bond for their survival. An intelligent cop is in pursuit, as the four friends try to keep up this deception.”

Amazon Prime’s Hush Hush Review Contains No Spoilers

In the Hush Hush series, the lives of 4 women named Ishi, Saiba, Zaira and Dolly turn upside down. Two unexpected death makes everyone suspect, and cop Geeta has to find the truth. As the title suggests, there are secrets that no one knows. But it’s time to unravel them one by one as that’s the only way to seek the truth.

What part do the four ladies have to play in the shocking and dark activities that have been happening? Will Geeta find the truth? Were the deaths murder or suicide? We get very few answers in the end.

Tanuja Chandra has brought together an amazing ensemble of Juhi Chalwa, Ayesha Jhulka, Soha Ali Khan, Shahana Goswami, Karishma Tanna and Kritika Kamra. They all have interesting and intricate characters written as Ishi, Saiba, Zaira, Geeta and Dolly. The set-up has everything – rich ladies, complicated personal and professional lives, hidden pasts and threats.

Hush Hush 1

The first two episodes leave us astounded and curious for answers. From episode 3, the pace slows down with various mysteries being unfolded. The deaths of two people turn into a subplot of what led to the unfortunate events, secrets, human trafficking and more. Even though the series has all the elements that could make it a solid thriller, the execution occasionally appears underwhelming.

However, from episode 6, the plot intensifies as the makers help us join some dots of various incidents happening in the show. Even if the revelations, the reasons and the dark past are quite startling, the conclusion is quite dissatisfactory. As cop Geeta says to the ladies, to not expect closure in the cast. It felt like the makers were talking to us through her.

The show ends the moment the premise becomes interesting. It is abrupt and confusing. I got the screeners of 7 episodes, I wonder if there are more. Because how can you end a show when it just got interesting? It doesn’t make for a good cliffhanger but leaves one frustrated.

Hush Hush 2

The star of the series is all the talented ladies. Juhi Chawla and Ayesha Jhulka have the most complex and interesting characters to play. The duo is phenomenal throughout. However, I wish we got to see more of Juhi. Soha, Shahana, Kritika and Karishma are brilliant throughout and carry the show well till the end.

Hush Hush Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, Hush Hush on Amazon Prime Video keeps you guessing till the end about what’s happening and why it is happening. It is a good attempt to create a series that’s dark and filled with mysterious characters. However, the screenplay could’ve been crispier and fast-paced, with a conclusion that would not have appeared hasty. It will keep the viewer intrigued for sure.

The show is now out on Amazon Prime Video.
