Hunter With a Scalpel Episode 5 Recap

The episode opens with Jung-hyun, who is hard at work trying to understand how the different clues left behind connect the two murders, while Se-hyun moves into an apartment overlooking the police station. Elsewhere, the police question Min-ho’s sister, who accuses Se-hyun of having something to do with his murder, telling them that it’s got something to do with Nam Seung-hyup’s case.

As Jo-gyun learns about Se-hyun moving into the house, Jung-hyun is ecstatic to learn that the temporary morgue application has been accepted. Se-hyun, however, is stalking the streets of Longchaun, which was once her home, and gets flashbacks of her past. That evening, both Se-hyun and Jung-hyun retrace Min-ho’s movements before his murder and suddenly run into each other.

They talk about the case over dinner, and Se-hyun doesn’t indulge all the evidence that she has found, although Jung-hyun does tell her that after following the perpetrator’s route the whole day, he has realised that he was not caught in any of the CCTV cameras, which means that the perpetrator knows the area well and might be a resident of Longchuan. Se-hyun realises that the police are catching up with her are desperately tries to stay one step ahead to catch her father herself.

On her way back home, she suddenly stumbles upon another dead body, lying out in front of her like her childhood doll. Just then, she gets a call and is overwhelmed to realise that it’s her father on the line. She tries to follow her father’s footsteps and finds a roll of gimbap sitting out for her. Incensed, she promises to go after him and catch him by hook or by crook and then eats the gimbap, much to her father, Jo-gyun’s, pleasure.

The Kdrama has finally picked up its pace, and we will finally get to see Se-hyun clashing with Jo-gyun in a demented game of cat and mouse while Jung-hyun tries to catch up. I wonder whether Se-hyun will be able to keep the toxicology findings from the police, now that she has decided to tell a bold-faced lie about it, and whether she will lose her job because of it.

Either way, the 30-minute runtime, although a bit annoying sometimes, is serving us quite well for now and leaving us hanging at opportune moments. Although I will say that the series seems to be moving quite slowly in comparison to other crime-thrillers. Either way, I am looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here and what will happen to Jung-hyun when he realises that he was being played by his colleague all along!
