Hum Do Hamare Do, starring Rajkummar Rao, Kriti Sanon, Paresh Rawal, Rathna Pathak Shah and Aparshakti Khurana, is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. Directed by Abhishek Jain and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Prashant Jha has written the dialogues and screenplay. The story is by Deepak Venkateshan with Sachin-Jigar’s music.
The synopsis reads, “Hum do Hamare do’s story is about a couple who ‘adopt’ their parents.”

Hum Do Hamare Do tells the story of an orphan named Dhruv and his love for a blogger named Anya. Dhruv used to work at Purushottam’s (Paresh Rawal) Dhaba when he was a child. As a kid, Dhruv elopes one night to alter his life and goes on to become a successful VR entrepreneur. Dhruv has a luxurious home, a successful business, a true friend in Aparshakti Khurana, and a crush on stunning Anya. He does not, however, have a family.
The makers, on the other hand, have shown us that Anya has a wonderful family. She informs Dhruv that her ideal match is a man with a loving family and a cute dog. An upset Dhruv asks two estranged lovers, Purushottam and Dipti (Ratna Pathak Shah), to act as his fake parents till he marries Anya.
Purushottam and Dipti, who used to be lovers, find it tough to play the fake relationship role. Although his made-up family plan appears to be too nice and real, things begin to go wrong. Emotions cannot be faked for long a time. Dhruv has a lot of problems as a result of the lies he has sown in his life. What will happen if Anya and her family learn the truth about him? Will Purushottam and Dipti rekindle their romance?
The initial 20 minutes of Hostar’s Hum Do Hamare Do are engaging, but the pace slows for a long time. After 20 minutes, the narration becomes dull, with little progression or exciting twist. When Paresh Rawal and Ratna Pathak Shah get together, though, the result is spectacular. With his outstanding performance, Paresh Rawal steals the show. His moments with Anya’s father, Mr Mehra ( Manu Rishi Chadha), are equally amusing.
Hum Do Hamare Do gives a high dose of laughter for those 35-40 minutes. That’s when you realise it’s a true family entertainer. However, as the story progresses, the pace slows again as it approaches the climax. The end is predictable but endearing. I also liked the controlled use of songs and the way Vedha Sajjeya song is shot.

The depiction of family relationships in good and bad times and humour for entertainment are what comprise a superb family drama. Despite the roadblocks of the muddled storyline, the Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon starrer has both of these key elements. Nonetheless, it’s better than the standard Bollywood family films, in which women are supposed to cook and serve their husbands, constantly blush, and have little to no voice.
Anya, played by Kriti Sanon, and Dipti, played by Ratna Pathak Shah, both have amazing scenes. I admire Anya’s ability to stand up for herself and her family, which is uncommon in Hindi films. In most movies, our leading ladies are frequently expected to be soft-spoken and easygoing. Dhruv is played well by Rajkummar Rao, but his performance shines in situations with Rawal and Shah.
Hum Do Hamare Do Review: Final Thoughts
Overall, Hum Do Hamare Do is a mixed bag of enjoyable and sometimes dull elements. It manages to entertain us, although it takes a little longer for fun to begin. After a long time, we finally have clean humour with well-written characters. The story has a heart and is trying to tell us something about what family truly means for every individual. As a result, you should watch it with your family at least once.
