House of the Dragon Episode 4 Memes: Most “Controversial” Episode Reels In Comical Discomforts

House of the Dragon Episode 4 is back with an ample amount of political as well as sexual drama surrounding the family, so what’s not to love? Well, as Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) puts it, “I have discomforting news”, the latest episode of the Game of Thrones prequel digs into the same. GOT was never once squirmish about incorporating the sexual subtext that precedes the franchise, and so House of the Dragon has moved on to the same path as well.

Sub-titled King of the Narrow Sea, the fourth episode plays out along the power politics that renders women agency-less, while some men assault their autonomy and thoughts just to consolidate their own position in the matrix. Daemon (Matt Smith) is exactly the kind of man who would do that.

The foremost focus of the episode is Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), who is perturbed by the never-ending line of suitors at hand. Contrasting the same visual enters Daemon with his disheveled outlook. The former eventually meets the latter, who also happens to be her uncle, and discusses the same issue of how her mother had to “squeeze out heirs”, till it killed her.

Thereafter, the two head out on a tour, which is all a plan in disguise orchestrated by Daemon to show the girl her place in the world but Rhaenyra is unstoppable. They then stop at a brothel… so much for an uncle and niece making memories, “controversial” feels quite understated.

The brothel does become a symbol of sexual freedom for some but the intense kiss shared between Daemon and Rhaenyra only makes us more conscious of the underlying issue of incest and the age difference between the characters. The same is what prompted many fans to tweet something along the lines of warning others to not watch the episode with one’s families.

Interestingly enough, Rhaenyra heads back after the scandalous make-out session with her uncle to Ser Criston. So, yes Hightower, the chain of actions is discomforting indeed, but the latter felt in place more than the former yet the question of consent still hangs in the air when Rhaenyra and Daemon are concerned. There are layers to it all hence the perennial stream of memes follows and explains the episode better than any in-depth analysis could break it down.
