Hot Skull Teaser: Raging Plague Tests the Survival of the Fittest

The corona pandemic may have impaired the creative process for a lot of productions in the past few years but some are keen on channeling the inspiration gauged during this period, Netflix’s Hot Skull is a similar upcoming product. Also known as Sicak Kafa, the Turkish mini-series stars Osman Sonant, Sebnem Hassanisoughi, Ozden Isiltan, Hazal Subasi, and more.

With actions of the series situated in an epidemic-ridden world wherein transmission happens through mere speech, it focuses on the socio-political aftermath of the same as fear rules people’s minds. The former linguist Murat Siyavus seems to be the sole survivor who is immune to it all, hence the title.

It’s expected of everyone to keep a Hot Skull to make it to the finish line, but things aren’t as simple. A dystopian world is always run by a higher institution, in this case, there’s the Anti-Epidemic organization who’s after Murat owing to his seeming indifference to the disease.

Having moved back in with his mother, he’s pushed by the latter to make the most of his life and live a little. However, the world soon falls to the prey of the plague with the fear of hearing distorted speech compelling everyone to keep their headphones on. Murat recalls the old good days, but he can’t live on the foundation of old memories, in the hopes of things getting better on their own. Taking control of his life, he must head out of hiding and deal with the real world and his role in it.

Reminding us of The Maze Runner saga, only this time Sonant’s Murat is caught in a world-sized maze, the series is a gritty science fiction survival thriller. The trailer for the same promises a captivating storyline that may inspire nail-biting anxiety in the audience from time to time considering our own contemporary reality of the pandemic and its aftermath.
