His Dark Materials Season 3 Episode 6 Ending Explained
The Abyss is clearly dedicated to Lyra and Will fulfilling their destiny, the prophecy that has created a fear that these two children might just be the end of the world and the Magesterium and the Authority. We know that Will and Lyra visit the Land of the Dead in the fifth episode and plan to break out the souls from the ghost Nazi camp they are presently stationed in, so they do.
Lyra ends up befriending a Harpy, who saves her when she almost dies by falling off a cliff and names it Gracious Wings. Through this Harpy and others she learns that stories will help the Harpies to allow the prisoners to depart. As Will cuts through a world beyond, what we know as Paradise, the Harpies allow the souls to move onto this new world that will be a better place for them and set them free. Thus, destroying Purgatory has been built by the Authority’s Regent in charge, Metatron.
This news reaches Marisa and Asriel too but, more in the form of a threat. The Angel shows up at the camp where Marisa and Asriel are at and tells them about their daughter’s deed. In consequence, Metatron will be aiming for revenge next with whatever might he has.
