His Dark Materials Season 3 Episode 4 is titled Lyra and Her Death and, as the title suggests, the episode pretty much aims at that. The question, however, still remains if Lyra is dead or alive and what happens to Pan, ultimately.
His Dark Materials is based on the trilogy of novels of the same name by Philip Pullman and is produced by Bad Wolf and New Line Productions, for BBC One and HBO. Lorne Balfe is the show composer with Jack Thorne as the writer. The cast includes Dafne Keen as Lyra Belacqua (who is essentially the protagonist of the series), Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter, Will Keen as Father Hugh MacPhail, Gary Lewis as Thorold, James McAvoy as Lord Asriel Belacqua, Ruta Gedmintas as Serafina Pekkala, Amir Wilson as Will Parry, Jade Anouka as Ruta Skadi, Simone Kirby as Dr Mary Malone and Andrew Scott as Colonel John Parry/Stanislaus Grumman.
In the third episode of His Dark Materials Season 3, we see Marisa and Asriel reunite but, it was all love and hate spewing over as Will and Lyra set to meet Lorek to get the Subtle Knife mended. Like always, Marisa is a person that cannot be trusted and sure enough, she escapes being captured by Asriel and returns to the Magesterium. Meanwhile, after the Subtle Knife is fixed, Will, Lyra and Pan decide to visit the Land of the Dead in the fourth episode as Lyra has been constantly haunted by Roger’s screams to help him.

His Dark Materials Season 3 Episode 4 Ending Explained
Towards the end of His Dark Materials Season 3 Episode 4, we see that Marisa’s visit to the Magesterium does not go as expected. In fact, she finds the Intention Craft that has been built to kill Lyra, the Second Eve. Like always, Marisa’s motherly instinct and Angel guide her to destroy the equipment which in turn rings alarm bells and she ends up getting caught by Macphail’s troops. Macphail decides to cut off Marisa from her daemon now and uses her to lure Lyra into their trap and kill her.
On the other hand, Lyra, Will and Pan’s visit to the Land of the Dead comes with an emotionally wrecking moment with His Dark Materials Season 3 Episode 4 coming to a close. To cross the river to reach the other side of the Land of the Dead, the Ferryman asks Lyra to leave her soul behind. This essentially means parting with Pan.
Due to this, Lyra and Pan are separated with hurts them both, physically and emotionally. We hear Lyra scream in pain as the episode ends leaving us all crying.
