A youthful pair, Louise and Alex, relish a luxurious summer in Knokke, Belgium. However, beneath their lavish life, they grapple with family expectations and individual challenges. Louise doubts the effectiveness of her bipolar medication, while Alex contends with a legacy of infidelity within his family. Their tranquil world is shaken by Daan and his mother, Melissa, unravelling concealed truths and genuine selves amid the chaotic summer.

Daan, unaware of his mother’s hidden motives for moving to Knokke, encounters Louise, a wealthy girl, despite her committed relationship with Alexander Vandael. Little does Daan know, Melissa chose this town due to her sister Claudia’s mysterious disappearance from there. Fueled by Melissa’s suspicions about the Vandael family’s involvement, she takes a job as their nanny.

The Vandaels have their own troubles: Eleonore’s paranoia about her husband’s fidelity and Patrick’s strained relationship with their son, leading to the boy’s harmful habits. Meanwhile, Louise’s growing closeness to Daan alarms Alex, straining his bond with both Daan and Louise. Louise’s decision to stop her bipolar medication worsens her mood swings, affecting those around her.

As tensions escalate, Alex breaks away to pursue his nightclub dream, leaving Louise feeling neglected. She turns to Daan, sparking a secret affair. Unexpectedly, this affair reveals a clue about Claudia, connecting her to the Vandael family’s past. Melissa sees through the family’s fabricated story about Claudia’s theft, leading to a crucial revelation.

Upon Louise discovering that Daan’s aunt Claudia and Eleonore’s nanny Claudia are the same person, Daan reveals Claudia’s story to her. Initially alarmed, Louise suspects Daan of using her to spy on Alex, whom he believes is connected to Claudia’s disappearance. However, she quickly grasps the situation. Despite continuing their relationship, their fling ends abruptly when Alex learns about it. His violent reaction results in a terrifying altercation where Louise is nearly drowned, and Alex is attacked with a hockey stick. As a consequence, their group falls apart, worsening Louise’s mental health. She turns to substance abuse during her sister’s bachelorette party and ends up overdosing.

During her recovery, Louise confides in Alex about Claudia. This leads to Alex confessing in fear that his father murdered Claudia. Melissa pieces together that Eleonore and Claudia were romantically involved during Claudia’s employment. She confronts Eleonore, who, despite evading initially, cares deeply about Claudia and joins Melissa’s quest for revenge. They realise reporting Patrick, Claudia’s murderer, to the police is futile due to his power. Eleonore schemes to use her friend Christine, who is having an affair with Patrick, to trap him at their anniversary party.

But due to the video, Alex revealed that his dad was with another woman, deeply hurt Olive, prompting her to seclude herself in her room. Patrick pursued Olive to the door as Melissa attempted to stop him, accusing him of her sister’s murder. The truth about Claudia’s disappearance emerged as it was revealed that Eleonore and Claudia’s affair led to a confrontation involving Patrick. In a panicked effort to protect Claudia from his father, Alex unintentionally pushed her off a balcony, though it was ultimately Patrick’s attack that led to her death. This revelation elucidates Eleonore’s cover-up and exposes Patrick’s influence over Alex. While Alex’s actions played a role, it was Patrick’s aggression that resulted in Claudia’s tragic fate.

Olivia grew up in a tumultuous household, placing the blame squarely on her father’s shoulders. Despite her young age, she witnessed her father repeatedly harming her mother and brother. When Alex, her brother, ended up in the hospital, Olivia admitted to the house help that she wished for her father’s demise. This revelation, shared by Louise with Daan, led to a heated argument between the couple, escalating to an attempted assault.

Amidst the chaos, Alex, overwhelmed by dark thoughts, decided to publicly shame and demean his father by sharing a video of him with another woman, Christine, during a party. The resulting turmoil left Olivia shattered, seeking refuge in her brother’s room. The situation took a grim turn when, emerging from Alex’s room, Olivia confronted her father with a gun, ultimately taking his life. Patrick met his end in an unexpected and tragic twist, brought about by Olivia’s drastic actions.
