Hellbound Season 2 Cast Announcement: Yoo Ah-in to be Replaced in Supernatural Kdrama Sequel, Here’s Who’s Taking His Spot

Webtoon adaptations have become the raging trend in the South Korean entertainment industry, and to add more content to the brimming pool, here we have the Hellbound Season 2 cast announcement. The sequel of the dark thriller Korean drama series was confirmed and announced way back in September 2022 during Netflix’s TUDUM event.

The release date for the same still hasn’t been outed, pull on to the heartstrings of the show’s fans, the OTT platform has laid out its cast announcement on March 2, 2023. Hellbound has been directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the very creator of the webtoon that offer the series with its source material as well. With the first season spanning over six episodes that were released the same day, i.e. November 19, 2021, the streaming platform went completely silent for numerous months after the series premiere.

Fans came to believe that they’d seen the end of the show without receiving any closure. However, the tables were turned over with the series renewal in 2022, and now we have finally the names of the actors who will be joining the second chapter of the supernatural show that also became the first Korean drama to be premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2021.

The initial season also starred Yoo Ah-in as the leader of the New Truth Society, but due to his ongoing controversial drug scandal, Kim Sung-cheol will be replacing him on the sets of the sequel. Kim Hyun-joo, Kim Sung-cheol, Kim Shin-rock, Yang Dong-geun, Im Seong-jae, Lee Dong-hee, Yang Ik-june, Lee Re and Cho Dong-in are some names of the cast members that have surfaced for now, and are confirmed to be starring in the next season. Many revelations, sacrifices and resurrections made their way into the storyline by the end of the former season.

The cast announcement news that has poured in today has listed the aforementioned names that will be joining the next instalment that will pick up its case right from the scenes of the astounding first season finale. This “second trip to hell” will also feature a guest appearance by Moon Geun-young.

While this genre of films or TV shows seemed to have died down earlier, themes of dystopian fictional realities, societies stuck in the midst of an apocalypse and other such subjects are once again finding their ground on streaming platforms. Virus breakouts, zombie apocalypses are again being forayed into with more and more storylines following the trend. Hellbound follows a similar trajectory with “unearthly beings” dotting the country’s landscape, that in turn propels religious sects to kick-start their own propagandas for power.

The first season of the grim Kdrama series is available for streaming on Netflix. The date for the next outing hasn’t been set yet, but we’ll keep you in the loop with updates, as and when they make headlines.
