The third episode picks up from where the previous one ended and takes us through the lead character’s origin story. In the second episode, Kiruko revealed a secret that raised a lot of questions that kept the viewers wondering about his backstory. However, in this episode, we get a clear answer about where he came from. Besides his story, a number of new characters are also introduced to provide a better understanding of the world before the “collapse”.

Moreover, the story build-up and execution are done to perfection. It adequately manages to draw in the audience and leave them as perplexed as the characters. Along with an emotional montage of the events, one cannot help but invest in the plot completely. Additionally, it will also force the viewers to question the circumstances. The tonal shifts of the episode are a rollercoaster ride as it goes from a light-hearted, fun-filled experience to dark and disturbing occurrences.

Hiruko is a complex character, and we still do not fully understand the situation. Additionally, his relationship with Haruki is complicated, and we do not get a clear backstory. It creates a parallel between the past and the current events as something similar is happening to him in the new world, but the only difference is that now he is standing at the other end. It is also hard to decipher his emotions and how the major event affected him.

However, the viewers will still be confused about the relationship between Kiruko and Maru. The revelation has certainly changed the storyline drastically that will affect not just their relationship but also the plot further moving forward. The mystery about the children that stay behind the wall remains intact, and it is expected that we will receive more information about them in the upcoming episode. Nevertheless, the suspicion about the two worlds being connected to each other becomes clearer in this episode.

The top-notch animation is another aspect that keeps the show exciting. So far, the story has been intriguing enough to keep the audience hooked. The most interesting aspect of the show is that there are always underlying odd elements running along the main plotline that raises a lot of questions. The build-up is seamlessly being done, only future episodes will tell if it manages to keep up with the execution consistently.
