The entire series from the first episode has done an excellent job at suspense building, and needless to say that the finale also ends on a similar note. Picking up from where episode 12 ended, Maru yet again rescues Kiruko but this time from Robin’s clutches. They both have an emotional reunion where their relationship still remains undefined. Even though Kiruko is assigned as Maru’s bodyguard, their roles often interchange. Moreover, their relationship has become a lot more intimate than before, but rather platonically and not romantically.

Kiruko still struggles with his identity and seems extremely confused about who he actually is, Kiriko or Haruki? Being entrapped inside his sister’s body makes the situation even more complex since his feelings towards were confusing. Regardless, after receiving some surety from Maru, he finally tries to accept his identity and neither Haruki nor Kiriko defines it.

Meanwhile, circumstances behind the walls remain unstable after the sudden attack on the facility. A few questions are finally answered, and some theories are finally proven right. The audience will be pleased to finally receive a conclusion to every loose thread that taunted them throughout. However, not everything is straightened out as the plot converges to another big twist which everyone will be looking forward to watching it unfold in the next season.

There has been remarkable character development in the story. The characters have become more vulnerable and showcase a range of emotions which makes them more human. As a result, the audience is bound to relate and get attached to them. Besides the plot, the animation remains beautiful and fluid, displaying every sentiment portrayed by the characters. The ability to tell a story in a way that makes you entirely invested is a tough formula to crack, and the director has effortlessly pulled it off.

It is a bittersweet feeling as the series has finally come to an end after 12 weeks of marvellous storytelling and transporting us to an entirely new world. As the episode ends on a cliffhanger, it makes the wait unbearable and somewhat worth it while wondering how the story will unfold next.
