Head Over Heels Episode 3 Recap

The episode opens with Seong-ah being stared down by Gyeon-woo, who is totally unhappy about Seong-ah being there. As depressing things just keep happening, including Gyeon-woo realising that he doesn’t even have 30 people to call for his grandmother’s funeral, General Dongcheon gets ready to rid a dilapidated building of its evil spirits. Back at the funeral, Ok-soon’s ungrateful kids create a scene and harass Gyeon-woo, eventually hijacking the funeral.

They eventually ask him to leave, telling him that his parents are about to arrive soon, while General Dongcheon is unable to complete the ritual, and the spirits run free. We also finally meet Yeom Hwa, a mysterious woman who is able to predict that a young child will get into an accident, but does nothing to stop it. General Dongcheon later discusses this issue with her sister, also a shaman, and she mentions that whoever performed the spell at the building is not a human being but a vile entity in the shell of a human.

Either way, a concerned Seong-ah goes to Gyeon-woo’s house to find out his whereabouts and, realising that he’s been thinking about dying (thanks to the spirit in his house), tearfully asks him to never think of such things. Elsewhere, General Dongcheon tries to get in touch with Yeom Hwa, but is unable to do so, and has to talk to her via Instagram DMs.

Later on, Seong-ah asks her mother to help her save Gyeon-woo and, hearing about the suicide ghost around him, she advises her to give him a reason to live before doing anything else. Plus, her mother asks her to turn herself into a human amulet and share her warmth with Gyeon-woo to drive out the misfortune. Although she’s shy at first, Gyeon-woo being her first love and all, she eventually listens to her mother and is excited at the prospect of holding him at every opportunity she gets.

That goes as… well as one might imagine! It makes for very awkward interactions with Gyeon-woo, who is utterly confused as to why Seong-ah keeps touching him. Either way, the two of them go to the columbarium where her urn is stored to keep her photo and, realising that his grandmother only smiled when he was happy, he decides to take up archery again.

Happy once again, things look up for Gyeon-woo a bit, while Seong-ah, now facing a suicide ghost and a baby ghost, runs around putting amulets everywhere and touching him a bit too much. He is confused but seems to be enjoying her company bit by bit, even agreeing to be her friend. The episode ends with them accidentally holding hands after their fingers interlock post a high-five.

Head Over Heels Episode 3: Cho Yi-hyun, Choo Young-woo

Listen, someone has to stop this show from being so cute because my heart can only take so much! All the bad things aside, Cho Yi-hyun and Choo Young-woo have such natural chemistry that it’s hard not to love watching them together. Cho Yi-hyun, especially, is like a little doll who goes around doing random stuff that ends up being adorable. I don’t know whether I would like anyone else following someone around, but this just seems too cute to dislike.

I think the story is going extremely well, too. The pacing is fantastic, different things are happening together that seemingly don’t make sense, but which I am hoping will come together eventually. Overall, I am hooked.
