Head Over Heels Episode 12 Recap
The episode opens with Yeom Hwa preparing another spell to put on Gyeon-woo to finally catch Seong-ah. Of course, she does it without anyone’s knowledge, planning on doing something surprising. Elsewhere, Bong-su (in Soeng-ah’s body) continues to wreak havoc and make everyone uncomfortable. However, when their school friends get to know that she’s back, they rush to meet her. Having a warm, happy party together, Bong-su feels guilty for not letting Seong-ah feel this happiness and warmth. Bong-su immediately breaks down with the thought of robbing her of this feeling, making Gyeon-woo feel rather angry.
He charges at Bong-su later, and he reminds him of the Hour of the Ox. That night, he breaks down thinking that he’s talking to Seong-ah, but it’s Bong-su… Seong-ah is nowhere to be seen. Frustrated with Bong-su’s taunts, he lashes out at him, but Ji-ho ends up telling him to apologise. However, that night Bong-su surprisingly tells Gyeon-woo to die in her place, convinced that she won’t come out without him taking things to the extreme.

The plan works, and he is able to talk to her. With Bong-su’s warning ringing in his ear about them losing Seong-ah if she doesn’t let her go, he tells her stories about their grade 12 classes and is able to get through to her. Flooded with memories from her school and Gyeon-woo, Seong-ah looks happy. Gyeon-woo uses this moment to apologise to her for leaving her alone and kisses her. When they all come to reality, Bong-su seems to have left Seong-ah and is now inhabiting Gyeon-woo.
The next morning, things are back to normal as the three friends share a meal together. It’s also the time that Ji-ho realises that his first love will never be realised and he decides to leave the two at home and find his own place. Meanwhile, still possessing Bong-su’s ring, Gyeon-woo calls Yeom Hwa to end this chapter once and for all, knowing fully well that he has to die for Seong-ah to stay alive.

The two eventually go off into the woods to end everyone’s misery while Flower Master realises what Yeom Hwa is planning to do after she wires money to his and Auntie’s accounts. As the exorcism starts, Yeom Hwa assures Bong-su that he won’t be alone in hell and the two start the process while Flower Master and the others try their best to save Yeom Hwa and Gyeon-woo.
When Seong-ah finally wakes up, she reads Yeom Hwa’s letter to her and immediately runs to Heaven and Earth Fairy to help her and protect the other two. Her devotion pays off as General Dongcheon and an entire cavalry arrives to help her in her quest. Confident, Seong-ah enters the building to rescue her loved ones. She immediately rescues Yeom Hwa and eventually learns Bong-su’s real name – Jang Yoon-bo. It’s a tearful goodbye between the two as he hugs her one last time before he moves on to the afterlife.
Jumping to 2028, Gyeon-woo is taking place in the Olympics with all his friends by his side. Seong-ah continues to help people and although she has always wanted an ordinary life, she realises that she can help people, and spirits, with her wonderful gifts. The two kiss each other as the episode ends.
Head Over Heels Episode 12 Review

What an asbolutely odd end to Head Over Heels as it suddenly rushes to an ending that somehow feels like it needed far too many episodes as well as far less. Don’t get me wrong, while I enjoyed the joyful end to the protagonists’ stories, I am left to question why a lot of things happened. Bong-su’s storyline simply didn’t make any sense in my mind, particularly episode 11, because it deviated from the tone the rest of the episodes held. I think the last episode doesn’t have that problem and is fairly balanced, but it’s still quite underdeveloped. Either way, a decent end.
