Hawkeye Episode 3 Recap: Plot and Discussion

After giving us a glimpse of Maya Lopez (Echo) at the end of episode 2, Hawkeye Episode 3 starts with her introduction. We are shown Maya as a little girl who’s deaf and very close to her father, William (Zahn McClarnon). Years later, Ronin (Jeremy Renner) kills her father, and Maya wants to avenge her father’s death. She is a skilled fighter and the leader of the Tracksuits gang.

Hawkeye and Kate Bishop (Jeremy and Hailee Steinfeld) are still captured by the Tracksuit Mafia. Maya and her gang member Kazi (Fra Fee) question the duo about Ronin. We find out that she has no clue about the person behind Ronin’s mask. Clint Barton tells Maya that Black Widow killed Ronin. As Clint tries to escape, Maya and he get into a fight. She also damages his hearing aid device. Somehow, both Kate and Clint escape in a car, followed by Maya and her mafia gang.

The episode has a long chase sequence with thrilling action scenes. We get to see Kate and Hawkeye in action with their bows and many tricky arrows. From explosion arrow to acid arrow to Pym arrow, Clint leaves Kate and us equally surprised. The duo succeeds in saving themselves from getting caught by Maya and her men.

‘Echoes’ also provides some humour and heartwarming moments with Kate’s jokes, Pizza Dog and Clint’s conversation with his youngest son. The archers then decide to uncover the truth of another dangerous person. All this happens while Maya and Kazi tease us about her uncle (Kingpin). With Echo on the lookout for them, Kate and Clint invite another big trouble. Will they get out of it? We will find the answers in the next episode.

Todays’s episode had all the elements that define MCU – suspense, comedy, action and emotional moments. The fight scenes, especially one on the bridge was nicely choreographed and captured. The focus on Kate-Clint’s heroic bond and the tricky arrows made the episode enjoyable. Kate’s lame Hawkeye joke and Pizza dog will make you smile. The ending will leave you wanting more.

While everything was good, I wanted to know more about Maya Lopez. With more focus on the action sequences, we see little of who she is after the introductory scenes. I hope that’s highlighted more in the upcoming 3 episodes. The episode felt shorter, giving us very little to discuss storywise. How will they wrap it all in only 3 episodes? That’s something to look forward to.

Hawkeye Episode 3 Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, the latest episode keeps the Christmas vibes aside and gets into the Marvel zone. The action, comedy and character dynamics between Kate and Clint are marvellous. The Tracksuit mafias are truly hilarious, and the Imagine Dragons joke was quite funny. It doesn’t give us much to discuss yet but makes you curious to know what’s next. The illustrations and music used at the end credits will impress you again.
