Colombian singer and songwriter Shakira might be turning another page in her life today on her birthday, yet she remains an undefeated queen in terms of her quality performances and charismatic stage presence. She has been around the music industry since the late 90s, and still trending with her latest diss track with producer Bizarrap, titled ‘Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53.’
It is also rumoured that she will be releasing some new music on her birthday, while we wait for it to drop – let’s look at some of her best live performances throughout the years.
Shakira’s Best Live Performances
Whenever, Wherever
Whenever, Wherever is Shakira’s English-language debut and from her third studio album Laundry Service. The song instantly became the Latin singer’s breakthrough hit in the United States, peaking at number six on the Billboard Hot 100.
Musically it incorporates elements of Andean music which makes it a much more hype beat and if you were listening to it in the early 2000s, I am sure you wouldn’t stop yourself from grooving.
Loca Live From Paris
As soon as the line ‘dance or die’ is heard, you know what’s coming up for you. From the ninth studio album, Sale el Sol, the Latin pop and merengue track Loca describes the eccentric infatuation with someone you like. Combined with the Dominican dance moves, it is a performance to watch for.

Hips Don’t Lie
Performed live at MTV Awards 2006, she shows off a new side in this song. Even if you were born post-2006, you must have heard this song being referenced on social media. With Latin pop and reggaeton influences, the song was selected as one of the greatest songs by 21st-century women, by National Public Radio.
Also, including Indian influences in her costumes and choreography seems fun to watch. To add a little backstory, famous Indian choreographer Farah Khan has actually choreographed this performance, which the singer learnt just a day before the actual thing.
She Wolf (SNL)
She Wolf was a revolutionary song when it came out since it was very different from the popular tracks of that time in 2009. With hi-NRG and synth-pop beats, it is the lead single from her eighth studio album of the same name.
Everything from her black outfit to her slick ponytail, it is an iconic performance and exudes oozing charisma. Performing in front of a live audience she doesn’t falter one bit whether be it vocally or from enjoying her performance. All we can conclude is that most of the audience must have gone back as her new fan.
Underneath Your Clothes
Underneath Your Clothes was performed on El Dorado Live Tour in 2011 and showcases Shakira’s alternative rock side. It is a power ballad from her album Laundry Service and the lyrics tell the story of the unconditional love that a woman has for her lover. As she sings about deserving all the love since she has been such a good girl.
Starting with a seductive silhouette dance move to the crowd singing along with her, this performance shows how she can dominate the stage alone – without the backup dancers or excessive props. If anything it’s certain that nobody can beat her in terms of stage presence and entertaining such a big crowd.
