Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 Trailer Breakdown

The Guardians are once again back in the Milano for another adventure. However, the trailer starts off by showing us Star-Lord drunk and nursing another drink when he speaks of Gamora, the woman he loved, who died at the hands of her father, Thanos, but is back now because of a glitch in the timeline that allowed two versions of Nebula and an older version of Gamora.

They are seen going through a lift where they are held as prisoners. It doesn’t seem to be the Xandarian prison from the first Guardians of the Galaxy film but definitely looks similar. Wearing red jumpsuits, they look like they have escaped but are trying to make their way out of the building. Peter Quill, Star-Lord, is holding onto an orb, white and what looks more like a multi-faced prism. Another person is standing next to them, perhaps the person who asked this question and is now regretting it.

Xandarian prison could have been renovated after it was thoroughly destroyed during the first film. Although in a trick of fate, the prison is ready to be destroyed again. In a parallel to the first movie, the Guardians are seen escaping the prison while the rest descends in chaos. Additionally, the use of Since You Been Gone as a theme track for the trailer sets some serious premonition that someone might not be able to make it out of this battle alive.

We see two new versions of The High Evolutionary. As the shots move towards a young Rocket, it becomes clear that he was involved in the genetic modification of his body, rendering him cynical and brash. The High Evolutionary also undergoes a series of experiments and modifications to find the best version of himself. This is someone who wants society to change and evolve completely, and sounds terribly similar to Thanos’ idea of balance and changing the universe.

Quill and his band of misfits make their way through several planets in order to find the man who made Rocket into who he is. It is entirely possible that The High Evolutionary is still looking for the experiments that escaped. Groot and Rocket could have been them. There is a time element that is prevalent in the trailer because The High Evolutionary’s look keeps changing. It is possible that this change took place as the film progressed and is becoming the villain through the course of the movie.

So far, we haven’t seen the gilded people. Ayesha, the woman who leads the Sovereign planet, has been infuriated after the Guardians stole her Anulax batteries and cut a deal with the bounty-hunting ravager Yondu Udonta. People with the power to make such drastic changes often lose themselves in the process. Adam Warlock seems like a creation of The High Evolutionary, based on the evidence pointing towards creating the most perfect individual skilled in all facets. It is possible that Ayesha and he came together to work on Warlock as a way of getting back at the Guardians.

The team is a family that protects each other. However, what is really harrowing is the fact that Peter Quill is being carried by the team, hanging limply from Nebula’s hands. She is seen walking alongside Mantis, Drax, Groot and Rocket, who all seem sullen but not thrown off by this development. This film is expected to be about cherishing found family, but it is assured that the family might be losing some of its members this year.
