Girl From Nowhere: The Reset Episode 1 Recap

The premiere episode introduces a story of bullying and revenge to avenge. The first scene shows Jom, who is a bully, beating Sky. Along with Jom, other bullying students also beat the poor kid. Jom urinates on Sky and records the incident and posts that Sky’s life is ruined.

Sky feels helpless, and every day at school feels miserable. He starts searching for help online, and that’s when he reads about Nanno, a girl who seems to have appeared at school, where things go wrong. The best part is, only those who are truly in trouble can actually see stories about Nanno, and given that Sky is able to see, it shows he is a person in need.

Sky sees pictures of Nanno and stories talking about her as a myth and a legend. He believes Nanno is the only one who can help him, and so he wishes she would appear at his school and put an end to Jom. The next day, the usual scenes begin. Jom makes Sky do his homework, and he gives in. Sky then gives Jom a pile of papers where the exam answers are.

But little does Jom know that those papers are filled with insults aimed at their teacher and the school. When the teacher reads it, she becomes mad, and Jom is sent to the Principal’s office, where he is punished. Jom faces trouble at home.

His father is an absolute madman. He takes Jom to the basement and punishes him severely. Jom decides to ruin Sky because of what happened to him. Jom catches Sky at the parking lot and makes Sky choose between two options. Either hit a dog and get beaten.

Sky stands up and decides not to hurt the dog. As usual, Jom and his friends brutally hit Sky, and Jom destroys Sky’s hand like how his father punished him. But it doesn’t end here. Jom ties Sky to a fence and makes him strip. He even burns his pubic hair, and this is also recorded. Jom laughs and warns Sky not to mess with him.

Sky decides to end his life and goes to the basement to hang himself. However, Nanno appears right on time and saves Sky. This version of Nanno seems different, and she helps Sky in a calm way. Sky hugs her and thanks her. Nanno tells that she did send him a message a few days back, but he blocked her number, thinking it was a joke.

Nanno agrees to help Sky take revenge on Jom. Since Jom has a fear of toilets, Sky makes Jom’s chair seem like a toilet. The whole class laughs, and Jom feels embarrassed. Nanno, who has just transferred to the school, sits in front of Jom and watches everything.

When Jom goes to the first aid room, Nanno replaces his hand with a toy hammer, and once again, everyone laughs at him. The humiliation makes Jom breakdown and he begs Nanno to stop the bullying. Even his friends record the video and insult him, showing they were never really friends.

The humiliation continues until Jom finally breaks down. He falls to the floor, crying and begs Nanno to stop. Even his own friends record the moment and suggest posting it online.

Nanno wishes Sky to attack Jom, but instead, Sky deletes the video and reaches his hand out to Jom to become friends. Sky says he never wanted to become like Jom. Nanno feels weird about the situation, but Sky thanks her for her help, and Nanno leaves the school to proceed with her next work.

Girl From Nowhere: The Reset Episode 1 Review

Right in the first episode, we see a brutal and violent bullying scene that leaves us disturbed. What Sky goes through is absolutely painful to watch. The episode, however, also shows Jom’s dad’s abusive behaviour, indicating why he has become a bully. With Nanno’s intervention, we learn that help is always around. However, the ending where Sky changes the whole scenario shows that kindness is the biggest revenge.
