Genie Make a Wish Ending Explained

The series opens with Iblis explaining his existence, how he was cast down to Hell for not bowing down to the humans that God created and thus, uses his powers to corrupt humans and vindicate themselves.

We then shift to Ka-young’s perspective, as she meets her mother for the first time after she abandoned her. She has been raised by her grandmother, who has used an iron fist to control Ka-young’s psychopathic tendencies. After saying goodbye to her mother, Ka-young goes on a touristy tour in Dubai and stumbles upon a lamp buried in the desert, eventually calling the genie out. Released after thousands of years, Iblis immediately takes to Ka-young, realising that she’s the young girl from 900 years ago who used her three wishes for others.

However, Ka-young is absolutely uninterested in Iblis and ignores him, leaving him very confused about her odd reaction. His bumbling behaviour leaves her annoyed, but the two eventually have a tiff after Ka-young pushes him off a high-rise building, and her fearless reaction leaves him traumatised. In the end, he threatens to murder every human in existence if she ever lays her hands on him, leaving her curious and intrigued.

Iblis eventually follows Ka-young home, much to the confusion of her grandmother, who wonders whether her granddaughter is about to marry this mysterious man. As the two start to live “together” in the village, Iblis desperately tries to sway Ka-young’s resolve, but to no avail. She, in turn, beats the crap out of him at every turn, leaving him bruised and defeated over and over again.

After much badgering, though, Ka-young finally accepts defeat and makes her first wish, agreeing to make all of her wishes if three out of five random people also make their wishes. Meanwhile, we meet Soo-hyun, an angel who has been waiting to kill Iblis for years. He was previously sure that Ka-young would never make any wishes, but is stumped when he learns that she made her first wish. Either way, he waits with bated breath to find an opportunity to get rid of Iblis once and for all.

Does Ka-young make all of her wishes?

Yes, Ka-young ends up using all three of her wishes. The third wish was for her to feel everyone’s feelings and understand what they went through trying to raise her. Although she had forgotten about Iblis, Irem reminds her of the deep love that they once shared, and she goes through a thousand different emotions as a result.

What happens between Ka-young and Iblis?

In episode 6, Ka-young learns about her past with Iblis as Soo-hyun shows her how he tried to trick her 900 years ago and ended up being punished as a result of her wishes. Although previously, she shared a tolerable relationship with him, now things have changed after she realises how skewed Soo-hyun’s interpretation is as well. She sees right through his words and catches Iblis’s true despair at her death 900 years ago, leaving Soo-hyun distressed.

Eventually, Iblis realises that 20 years of his life have been wiped from his memory, and no one wants to fill him in on the truth. He eventually reads the writings on the walls of his room in the lamp and realises that it has something to do with Ka-young, who has also lost her memories from the past. As the two grow closer to each other, they both refuse to end each other’s lives while learning more about one another.

In episode 12, the two learn about their deep love for one another in their previous lives, which was taken away thanks to Iblis’s choices, but they continue to root for one another in this life while trying to defeat Khalid.

Who is the immortal human?

When Ka-young had asked for her friend to be saved years ago, Iblis had created an immortal being whom Shadi had found and exchanged his son, Khalid’s life, with that of the boy. Thus turns Khalid into a being without consequences, and he now desperately wants to control Iblis and fulfil his ultimate wish. In the past, too, Khalid had used his powers to cause Ka-young to die at a crazed merchant’s hands, which resulted in Iblis and Ka-young not being together.

In the present, Ka-young and Iblis defeat Khalid after Iblis goes to the garden of souls and cuts down his flower after a lengthy battle with Soo-hyun.

Do Ka-young and Iblis end up together?

At the end of Genie Make a Wish, Ka-young goes to Dubai after Iblis dies at Soo-hyun’s hands. Ka-young dies in the desert as well after her third wish is fulfilled. Thankfully, she is reincarnated as a Jinniya, but Iblis remains nowhere to be found. In a rather funny twist of fate, though, Pa-geum refuses to go to Heaven or be reincarnated and pressures Soo-hyun to let her talk to God and bring Iblis back. Although he tries to stop her from pressuring him, it’s a futile battle and, in the end, her wish is fulfilled.

The series ends with both Iblis and Ka-young, now mythical creatures, spending forever together as they grant wishes and cause mischief.
