Ganglands Season 2 Ending Explained: Were Mehdi and Liana Caught? Did Almeida Escape?

Ganglands Season 2, or Braqueurs Season 2, premiered on February 17, 2023, on Netflix. Created by Hamid Hlioua and Julien Leclercq, the plot surrounds a proficient robber Mehdi and a small-time thug Liana, whose lives get entangled following a series of coincidences. Julien Leclercq directs the series.

Starring Sami Bouajila as Mehdi and Tracy Gotoas as the lead actors alongside Samuel Jouy, Salim Kechiouche, Nabiha Akkari and more. Wim and Vanswijgenhoven are the cinematographers, and Lucas de Moidrey and Jeanne Trellu give the music. The show contains six episodes with a runtime of approximately 45-50 minutes each.

To protect his family from a powerful drug lord, skilled thief Mehdi and his expert team of robbers are pulled into a violent and deadly turf war.

Ganglands Season 2 Ending Explained

Due to Almeidas intricate plans and schemes to take over the drug empire, many people lost their lives. He convinced the head of the cartel that Saber had killed his son, and they instantly targeted his family. However, the prosecutor had a different plan cooked out, and he directed his bodyguard to murder his superior after Saber and his family were killed. But alas, bad fortune catches up to him as the bodyguard dies due to certain momentary actions. The cartel head realises the man behind his son’s death is none other than Almeidas.

What happened to Tony?

After Almeidas’ men raid Mehdi’s hideout area, which leads to the death of Liana’s friend, Saber decides to help them out. The prosecutor had also threatened to murder Tony’s family members. Through his lawyer, Saber discovered the motel where Tony’s family is kept under witness protection by the police. Mehdi and Tony wasted no time and instantly arrived at the said place, but they were too late. Almeidas’ men had murdered Tony’s family.

Distraught, Tony sits near the pool of blood as he desperately cries out at the devastating loss. Mehdi walks out of the room and hears a loud gunshot. He calls Liana and confirms Tony’s death.

Events at the precinct

Mehdi intentionally crashes a car outside the police station to create a distraction while Liana stays hidden outside as a lookout. With the given opportunity, he enters the station to capture Almeidas but is met with the officer pointing a gun at him. But Almeidas’ accomplice kills her, and they make their escape from the station. Liana tried to stop him, but she panicked at that moment.

Did Almeida Escape?

Almeida planned to escape with his private jet, but Mehdi and Liana arrived on time. The game of cat and mouse continues as Mehdi searches for him in the entire space. However, the prosecutor points a gun at Mehdi and threatens to kill him. Liana arrives from behind and shoots Almeida multiple times.

Mehdi consoles Liana and demands the pilots to start the aircraft. It is indicated that they make their escape from the country, hinting at a possible third season.
