From the Ashes: The Pit Review

In this tense psychological survival story that takes place after the devastating incidents of the first film, three friends find their friendship tested when they get trapped in a pit during a violent storm. The film has a thrilling premise, and the rising waters in the isolated underground with no immediate rescue will leave viewers desperate as the relationship between the girls quickly spirals out of control.

What starts as a battle for survival quickly transforms into an emotional struggle as well, with old resentments, buried guilt and unspoken truths bubbling to the surface and making an already treacherous situation even more dangerous and isolating. As the girls fight for their bond and their lives, viewers will find the claustrophobia creeping in and taking over as things get from bad to worse, and you wonder whether they will be able to get out of the situation in one piece.

The film does a good job at focusing on the psychological tension instead of relying on too many jumpscares. With the premise already being terrifying, the rising waters and the emotional ups and downs between the girls make for an even more tense situation. The pit becomes a metaphor for emotional isolation, unresolved trauma and vulnerability that the teens have to fight out of. It further begs the question of not only whether they will get out of this alive but also what remains of them if and when they do. The emotional depth gives it a greater meaning than just being another survival thriller, which makes it quite an interesting watch.

However, the emotional ups and downs might rub some viewers the wrong way at times, especially when it overshadows the traditional thriller aspects. Although the narrative aspect is compelling, if you’re in the mood for non-stop action, the film might disappoint you because it leans more towards drama than action. However, the survival premise is overtaken by themes of friendship, forgiveness and the price of honesty, which gives this thriller an emotional depth that sometimes feels more intense.

Moudi Abdullah, Aseel Morya, and Aseel Seraj are great in the film and deliver earnest and grounded performances that will make you want to follow them. Their performances make the film feel personal and immersive, and director Bamajboor leans into the claustrophobia and character psychology rather than spectacle.

From the Ashes: The Pit is for anyone who likes their thrillers dramatic instead of non-stop action. The situation and performances feel immersive and personal, and the film does a great job of creating psychological tension instead of making this a jumpscare-filled mess. Sure, it can get a bit slow sometimes, but mostly, leaves you on edge.

    • Tidak ada yang peduli dengan pendapatmu tentang tubuh wanita. Sungguh tidak sopan. Kamu seharusnya malu pada dirimu sendiri.

  2. Movie From the ashes on Netflix. The film makes viewers want to vomit, from schoolgirls to women, from the acting to the content.
