From Season 4 Review
Plot & premise
Continuing on its journey of following a bunch of townsfolk who are trapped in a mysterious town where creatures come to haunt them at night, things take a step further in season 4, wherein an enemy close to home wants to disrupt their progress. In this season, the survivors are trying to make sense of reality, but the season continues to push them over the edge towards psychological and physical danger.
There are new revelations every few moments as key characters start to put the pieces together and remember things, but the whole truth remains out of their reach. Moreover, a terrifying entity infiltrates their ranks and tries to mix into their lives, only to create havoc behind their backs. This inclusion raises the stakes quite a bit, as the people slowly start to come undone. The premise continues to be gripping as the characters are placed in increasingly desperate situations, although the series does choose to expand the complexity over solving existing threads.

Direction
Creator John Griffin continues to do a great job with the visual identity of the story, prioritising creating a deeply disturbing and claustrophobic atmosphere. The haunting surroundings just add to the complex mystery that the villagers are trying to solve and merge them to deliver an arresting watch. It adds to the persistent sense of dread and confusion that the series does such a good job of bringing to its viewers.
The silence and slow camera movements are also deliberate, and thankfully, the lack of jumpscares makes it all the more engaging and arresting. However, the season does suffer from deliberate pacing at times, which makes some sequences sluggish.
Storytelling & tone

The storytelling of the fourth season remains layered and decisive as information trickles down slowly, and revelations are made in shocking moments. This is a slow-burn series, so the payoff isn’t immediate, but it does a good job of never taking too long to give viewers something meaningful. Viewers will find themselves on the cusp of solving the mystery, but then something surprising comes around that turns everything on its head.
Thus, the season holds on to the psychological horror elements as viewers find themselves confronting emotional breakdowns, moral dilemmas and the slowly eroding sense of hope alongside it. As characters begin to break under the pressure and paranoia slowly takes over, the tone gets darker and more introspective. As a result, the collective result is a memorable set of episodes that leave you to formulate a thousand theories!
What works

The atmosphere is, as always, the best part of the show as it gets more suffocating than ever. As the enemies close in from every side, the tension is dialled to a hundred, thanks to the deliberate pacing. The mythology also expands this season, which is extremely intriguing. New clues about the town and why they are here keep the characters and viewers busy, while the monsters leave everyone terrified. Moreover, the season brings another set of great performances from across the board that adds to the intrigue and atmosphere building of the series.
What doesn’t work
There are some moments where From Season 4 suffers because of its pacing, as sequences can feel unnecessarily dragged out. Some of the long-standing questions still remain unsolved, and it can get frustrating at times.
The bigger picture

Season 4 leans heavily into themes of fear, survival and the breakdown of a community under pressure. As the desperation among the characters grows, so do the stakes. The series is less about throwing answers towards us and more about the journey to get there. This is, of course, more about ambiguity and layered storytelling, which will immerse fans into the story and the worldbuilding with ease.
Final Verdict
In the end, From Season 4 continues to be gripping, unsettling and extremely emotionally taxing as the characters go through extreme trials and tribulations to get to the truth and, hopefully, out of the situation that they have been stuck in for years. The tricking truths are intense but also frustratingly elusive at times, but overall, it’s definitely worth the watch thanks to its atmosphere and performances.
