From Bureaucrat to Villainess Episode 1

We follow Kenzaburou, a 52-year-old Japanese salaryman who meets his end via the infamous truck-kun and is transported into the world of his daughter’s favourite game. He wakes up as Grace, the strict and proper daughter of a Duke, and we embark on his unique journey of navigating life as a woman while trying to maintain her established personality.

Despite some familiar tropes, the show offers many engaging and entertaining moments. As a seasoned otaku, Kenzaburou has a decent understanding of the game, which comes in handy. Additionally, his natural instincts as a caring father blend seamlessly with Grace’s noble demeanour, helping him maintain the illusion of being a dignified Duke’s daughter while also subtly improving her social standing.

One of the funniest elements of the show is how the game’s heroine ends up falling for Grace, not as a romantic lead but due to Kenzaburou’s inadvertent parental charm. This dynamic promises plenty of laughs in future episodes as he struggles to embrace the role of a classic villainess while inadvertently winning others over, especially the female characters.

Our favourite Oji-san is back with more of his escapades and journey to become the perfect villainess. However, this episode starts with a glimpse at the previous life of Kenzaburo, who used to be a normal salaryman. We get to see how he is a seasoned otaku whose wife and daughter share a similar passion for anime and manga. Even though Kenzaburo worked for the City’s government office, we still see him geeking out about anime in front of his colleagues without feeling the need to hide his passion.

But now that he has died and reincarnated as a Duke’s daughter, he must survive in this new form with his existing knowledge. Thus, we see him meet the capture target for the very first time and completely change their perception of Grace. All the men become pleasantly surprised when Grace talks sense rather than relying on her notions about class. Even though Kenzaburo wanted to act like the original Grace, he still could not hide his true self. Thankfully, no one suspected him.

But is he really acting completely out of character? In another scene, we find out that there was a time when Grace used to visit all the staff members and look at their work out of appreciation and curiosity. She liked chatting with them and spending time with them. But after she started getting taught about high society, she changed into a complaining and insufferable character who only thinks about social standings.

Another very interesting aspect of this world is its magic system, which genuinely makes sense. It is easy to understand and also believable as to why Kenzaburo would be good at it from the very beginning. Our hero is truly having fun in this life, and hopefully, we will see him explore what the world has to offer.

I like today’s episode and believe that this is a better Isekai villainess anime than many. The premise is very unique, and the characters are very interesting, especially the main lead. Having a middle-aged guy’s perspective gives this anime a nice twist, and you should definitely check this out.
