Netflix Film Freestyle Review Contains No Spoilers
In the Netflix film Freestyle, Diego (Maciej Musiałowski), a street rapper, has been clean since his drug addiction. Therapy and rehab have helped him get his life together and focus on his career. However, his friend Flour (Michał Sikorski) creates an issue, and Diego has to sort it out. Well, it doesn’t come without challenges as a gangster gets involved. Diego is lured into making easy money. But after everything he has been through, will the rapper fall back into the same pit? That’s something we have to see in those 86 minutes.
Young, aspiring rappers or artists in general getting addicted to drugs is nothing new. It’s the same case in many places, so Diego and Flour are like those young and talented people who got lost in their path. However, Diego realised what was right and what was wrong. All he wants to do is make great music and live his life to the fullest. But life had some other plans which tested his determination.

At first, Freestyle seems like a celebrity-based movie where we see how a person slowly rising to fame fails to handle it and becomes a victim of their own action. But the Polish film leans more into the crime thriller genre with gangsters and threats. On paper, the concept of a street rapper trying to fight the urge not to follow the wrong path again must have sounded quite inspiring. But the execution is dragged and uninteresting.
There is only so much the makers could add to show the obstacles in Diego’s life. At one point, we don’t care about Diego being a rapper, as the movie ends up becoming a story of illegal drug activities and people getting affected by it. We have seen these stories many times, and the outcome is more or less the same.

Actor Maciej Musiałowski plays Diego, and he has done a good job, whether it’s rapping for some time or doing several fight scenes. Michał Sikorski as Flour also plays his part well. The rest of the cast gives a satisfactory performance, considering how weak the premise is. The story is quite fast-paced, so the actors have to react suddenly to situations. Sadly, the fast-paced screenplay generates no curiosity about what’s next.

Freestyle Review: Final Thoughts
Overall, Freestyle on Netflix is dull and confused about its genre. It feels stretched despite having a runtime of just 86 minutes. The speedy narrative fails to add any thrills to keep us engaged.
The movie is now streaming on Netflix.
