On March 31, at 1 PM KST, the countdown to JISOO’s long-awaited solo debut finally stopped as the Flower MV had something for us all, artistically and emotionally. Composed by 24, VVN, and KUSH, with lyrics by Vince, KUSH, VVN, and Teddy, the leading track of her first single album, ME, leads on as a mellow dance track while the lyrics overtly break down the sentimental thought behind one’s heartbreak.

The video sees her take on various fashionable avatars, almost as if reflecting her different states of mind. The colourful, ethereal vibe is further reflected in the extended metaphor of a Flower employed throughout the lyrics. Highlighting those parting ways may put an end to a relationship, but its memory always lingers behind in thought, just like “Nothing is left but the scent of flower”. Ultimately, the order must reset, much like how flowers bloom again during Spring after the deadening cold Winter, “Spring comes and we say bye bye bye”.
Her single album’s title, ME, also propagates the idea that with this solo debut, we’re getting to see a new side of the artist, one that is distinct from her identity as BLACKPINK’s JISOO. Throughout the MV, the singer’s expressions are louder than words in portraying her innate heartbroken voice, which also helps us recall her experience as an actor in the K-drama Snowdrop.
The 3-minute music video is divided into three chapters, post the heartbreak situation. The same is also reflected in the shifting colour schemes of her outfits, which switch from monochromatic and solemn tones to bright, sparkling counterparts, and the accompanying dramatic makeup choices.

Certain actions, like her pulling apart the pearl necklace from her neck and removing the dark choker necklace at the end of the video, accentuate the idea of her breaking free from those previous feelings and starting anew, which, of course, has a bittersweet connotation.

ME, her debut single solo album, also consists of a b-side, All Eyes On Me, written by 24, R.Tee, TEDDY, Vince, and VVN. BLACKPINK is a four-member girl group managed by YG Entertainment. All members – Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa – last released their second studio album, Born Pink, in September 2022. The groups will also make their UK Music Festival debut in July at Hyde Park, London.
