Evil Dead Rise Teaser Breakdown: Things Don’t Look So Good For Mom

The Evil Dead nation, rise up. The teaser for the sequel, Evil Dead Rise is here and the hype is real. The first film came out 10 years ago and many viewers are commenting that the wait is worth it. The sequel will be directed by Lee Cronin who also joins this project as a screenplay writer along with Sam Raimi. The cast for this film includes Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan, Gabrielle Echols, Mia Challis, Nell Fisher, Morgan Davies, Jayden Daniels, Billy Reynolds-McCarthy and Tai Wano.

This is one of the most diverse franchises with multiple films and a show and a record of consistently delivering good content over the years. For this movie, the slogan reads, “Mommy Loves You To Death.” While this is a horrifying spin on a mother’s love, the Evil Dead Rise teaser holds nothing back.

The video starts off with a little girl holding a toy lantern and making her way towards the hallway. In the background, an unseen figure sings a lullaby ominously. She hesitantly makes her way to the hallway that seems to extend forever, in a cinematographic choice closely mimicking Stanley Kubrick’s in The Shining. As the girl finally makes her way down to the door, we see that it has been barricaded, and a bureau has been placed in front of the door, where the ominous singing is coming from.

We still haven’t left the little girl who is cautiously moving towards the door. She places a chair in front of the door and stands up to look through the keyhole. She shakingly says, “You don’t look so good, Mom.” What happens after is a wonderful jumpscare in the works. We see her mother’s face. Bloody and stuck in the lobby of a building. We see that even the glass on the keyhole is covered in blood. Her mother’s eyes appear reptile-like while she seems to have moulded her mouth in a creepy smile that takes over her features and leaves little to be unafraid.

In the synopsis for Evil Dead Rise, IMDb writes, “A twisted tale of two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.” Unlike the last few projects, this film is set in a populated area of an apartment building, a change in setting that could lend to the stakes being raised even higher in this film.

The story of the movies and the TV show generally revolves around the Necronomicon, the instigator of the horror setting also known as the Book of the Dead. This book helps summon the Kandarian Demon and helps to harness the demon’s capability to control the dead and Deadites.

These parasitic creatures possess mortals and then control them to consume other people. In this case, it seems that the mother will be possessed by the Deadites. Therefore, it would be interesting to see how she gets possessed and who is using the Necronomicon this time to commit acts of chaos.

In the end, when the title card comes up, we hear a peal of tantalising laughter enough to set a chill in the bones. This teaser promises another trailer for the movie on January 4, 2023.
