Drops of God Episode 7 Recap
In this episode, we see Issei coming to terms with the fact that his family will never come around to his attempt at winning Alexandre’s legacy. However, he is still happy he didn’t relinquish his dignity to win against his sister. Now that it has become clear that Camille is his sister, their dynamic has completely changed. The second test was successful, and now the time for the third test is here. Camille and Issei are taken to France, where the final test will occur.
Initially, we see Luca come in and explain that whoever wins this inheritance test will get the rights to the Léger guides, and then we see him go towards Camille and tell her that she will never be able to win this contest because he will make sure of it. She remembers what Lorenzo had told her about Luca and his stake in the guides. Apparently, Luca has a 45% stake in the guide, and Alexandre never knew about it. Moreover, whatever vineyards Luca used to buy would originally be worth nothing, but after they appeared in the guide, the value would go up.

Knowing this, Camille is incredibly happy that she didn’t take over the guide because she would have consistently been forced to look at this whole thing through a monetary lens, something she doesn’t enjoy. However, it seems that she doesn’t have to worry about this guide anyway because she is terribly losing the first round. We see her absolutely bombing the quiz part of the test that Issei has been cruising through.

The two of them are then invited to a lunch where the second contest is taking place. They are expected to pick out bottles of wine along with the meal they are assigned. Both of them choose wines based on the elements of the food they choose to focus on. While Issei goes the technical route by choosing the most complementary tastes, Camille uses her instinct and the tool of storytelling to choose her wines. They are still obviously relevant to the taste, but they also bring in a personal touch.

We see Luca and the other jury members arguing about whose wines work best, and the former steps to notify Camille that her wines, while telling a story, didn’t actually do a good job at matching the taste with the elements from the wine. The other jury members are baffled by this observation and cannot believe that he is doing this. After this test, Camille is drained, and all she wants to do is sleep, but someone wakes her and tells her that the third test will begin soon.
They are taken to Phillippe’s vineyard, where the third part of the contest will begin. At the vineyard, Issei and Camille are asked to stay in the seasonal workers’ quarters. They are given a mystery wine to taste from this vineyard only, and the two of them have till the next day to identify the wine and reproduce it using the ample winery space that the vineyard has and create the perfect blend. Issei goes down to the vineyard and starts tasting the soil and making notes for information.

Meanwhile, Camille starts getting right to it by tasting the wine and heading to the winery to figure out the combinations of different wine types. Thomas and Phillippe are not allowed to talk to either of the contestants, and while that was okay with Camille, she just wanted someone to bounce ideas off of, but Thomas was not there. Additionally, we see that Issei hasn’t been focusing on recreating the wine. He has been taking his time.

When Camille gets back to the room, she sees Issei eating. He apologises for the second test, and she asks him how he found out. He explains the whole situation with his parents, Alexandre’s classes and the painting, finally letting her know that the name of the wine is right there. The two of them then have a civilised conversation about the contest, and Issei explains how she is so surprised to see Camille take over the competition so easily in such a short time.
Drops of God Episode 7 Review

It seems that the two of them have created a truce of sorts where they will continue to be competitors, but now they have respect for each other. What was interesting to see was the relationship that had been created between Camille and Issei. The two of them are very different, and like siblings, they have their own genetic makeup that makes them adversaries but allies simultaneously. The moment we figure out they are half-siblings, the thrumming energy from Issei becomes so palpable that it can only be attributed to their filial relationship.
This episode was brilliant in many ways, but perhaps the best part was having Issei and Camille come together and interact. After exploring their origin stories, this part of the series, albeit in the last two episodes, has truly raised the stakes. It would be amazing if Camille finds out that Issei is her half-brother.

The ending really left me wondering if he’s just uncovering and tapping into his similar genetic/ filial superpower bc he’s been focused solely on the theory behind wine… OR if he was testing himself with it and kept it to himself and sort of fibbed to Camille. He’s acting like an older brother type now ???? one thing that annoys me is that Camille is in her own world and plays the martyr, albeit the underdog. However, how has she not put it together with Issei’s age? They must have a similar birthday. He said 30 years ago… and then with the owner having an abrupt realization of having Tomine clients years prior..
