Doctor Cha Episode 12 Recap
In this episode, we see Jeong-suk reprimand Roy Kim and In-ho relentlessly. She calls both of them out for behaving like children and engaging in a fistfight for a reason that doesn’t do well for either of these people. In-ho was supposed to keep up his perfect image, and this love triangle rumour has been causing so much drama that this incident will add fuel to the fire.
Meanwhile, we see I-rang working on her art project. Eun-seo comes in and takes all her stuff from the art academy. Before she walks out the door, Eun-seo drops everything off of I-rang’s easel where she is working. Choi Seung-hi is thinking of her daughter at this time, who won’t be able to go to her desired institution because of this accident.
She doesn’t want to let go of Seo In-ho anymore. He tries to break it off with her, but she is absolutely not accepting the fact that he can leave without providing any sort of emotional consolation or an effort to be a real family. She explains that he can only break up with her if she decides to break up with him. He has no choice but to figure out a way for Jeong-suk to leave the hospital. She even speaks to Jeong-suk, who is confused about why she has to leave the hospital to appease other people.

During all this, some patients are really going through it. This one patient gave birth to her child and is undergoing a cancer diagnosis simultaneously. At this time, the baby is getting discharged, and the mother is returning to pick her up. In conversation, it comes up that she has been feeling cramped in the stomach lately, and Jeong-suk suggests she go to the Family Medicine department to get a proper look at her condition. However, Jung-min is assigned to this case, and after speaking to someone on the phone, he discharges the patient.
However, her condition becomes complicated way too quickly. We see him run to Roy Kim and notify him of all the symptoms and all the complications she has had currently. He goes into the operating room, and as he cuts her open to operate, he is struck by the pungent odour coming from the body. He explains how the cancer has metastasised to the stomach as well now. The colon was already affected, but this procedure will definitely not help the patient.
When he comes out of the operating room, he notifies the patient’s parents that she is no more. They are devastated. Jung-min sees all this and becomes so scared that he runs away from there. At this time, Dr Jeon is still coming to terms with the fact that the two of them aren’t together anymore, but she sees him tired, overworked, overwhelmed and cannot do anything about it. The patient’s parents don’t know about this side of Jung-min. They want to sue the hospital.

At the funeral service, Jeong-suk and In-ho make an appearance as a way to compensate for Jung-min not showing up. The parents get so mad, they start talking about suing the hospital, the department and everyone for medical malpractice. In-ho is absolutely annoyed by the fact that Jung-min ran away. According to him, this was the coward’s way out. Jeong-suk is asking In-ho to show some compassion after the kind of devastating feeling he also must be going through.
Dr Jeon has been speaking to other doctors and discovered that Jung-min was self-preserving in the arcade. He was sitting away from everyone behind a closed door. In-ho is speaking to him and initially starts off really strong but comes back with a sense of calm and explains his own situation from medical school. This relevant story gives Jung-min the strength to pick himself up and take responsibility for this situation. Dr Jeon is right there with him to help. She supports him to do it right and well, even if he breaks down at the moment.
The parents are extremely mad. Even though they saw Jung-min come in and apologise, crying on his knees, they said that they would not get their daughter back. Roy Kim is notified of all this, and he comes to the parents to let them know exactly what happened with the case, but as understandable the family doesn’t want to talk about this. Jeong-suk feels so bad about this situation that she runs to the funeral home and consoles the patient’s mother so thoroughly that they create their own bond with vulnerability and connection.

At the same time, we see In-ho tackling the legal aspect of this by pinning all the blame on the Family Medicine department. Seug-hi catches wind of this as the department head and absolutely ruins In-ho in an argument. She warns him not to rope in her department. Meanwhile, he is going through his own family memorial service, where Jeong-suk drops the bomb that she will be filing a divorce because nothing has been going the way she wants. In-ho’s nose starts bleeding, and he collapses on the kitchen floor.
Doctor Cha Episode 12 Review
This episode is definitely more serious than yesterday, and the beginning was so deceitful because the hilarity was through the roof. The rest of the episode just proved why Seo In-ho is a terrible figure of authority in general but also a terrible parent who doesn’t understand what his kids think and are like. It is brilliant to see once again that Jeong-suk is given control of the narrative, and she chooses what happens. So far, we still see no romantic inclinations between her and Roy Kim, which is an extremely healthy choice.
While we are seeing some new information revealed piece by piece, the character arc is now slowing down with no more exploration in their lives beyond this simple slice-of-life stuff. That is also impeccably interesting, but it would be better to see some external conflict and strife create some angst within this plot.
