Disconnect The Wedding Planner Ending Explained: Did Celine Forgive Richard and Judy?

The recent Nigerian film, Disconnect The Wedding Planner ending can be pretty perplexing. Even though the film’s protagonist is Otis, the supporting characters overthrow him. Additionally, the movie had too many storylines going on, leading to an ending where many outcomes happened.

The movie is directed by David ‘Tosh’ Gitonga, known for his movies, Disconnect and Nairobi Half Life. The film’s synopsis reads, “After falling victim to a scam, a desperate man races the clock as he attempts to plan a luxurious destination wedding for an important investor.” Otis has to get the marriage set-up ready before the clock runs out. To save his company’s name, he seeks his friends’ help, and that’s when unexpected truths emerge.

The film’s cast includes Catherine Kamau, Pascal Tokodi, Brenda Wairimu, Brian Ogola, Patricia Kihoro, Justin Mirichii, Magdalene Otanwa, Tope Tedela, Francis Onwochei, Irene Paul, Ozioma Jesus, Wale Ojo.

Otis’ friends TK, Khalid, Judy, Richard and Celine plan the wedding event as per the investor’s expectations. But during the preparation, Celine gets cheated on by Richard as he sleeps with her best friend, Judy. Judy, who only recently got cheated on by her lover, finds herself trapped in the same misery. When the truth comes out during an argument, Celine’s heart breaks.

Meanwhile, TK confronts Otis and confesses her feelings. She also understands the reality that Otis is a man who doesn’t like to be in serious relationships. In fact, he already has a daughter whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend Patricia. Unable to hide her feelings, TK withdraws from Otis’ after the wedding event.

In the end, Otis returns to his office and apologizes to his partner Khalid for all the mess and money he lost in the wedding plan scam. Then, Otis remembers Judy’s words during the flight and starts to realize that he also has feelings for TK. So he rushes to TK’s office, meets her in the parking lot and confesses to her. As expected, both of them share a kiss and bond.

On the flip side, Celine forgives Richard and continues the relationship with him (God, no!). Only days before knowing about the infidelity news, Richard proposes marriage to Celine. Yet, Celine doesn’t bother to deal with him but forgives him in just one day. Towards the end of the movie, the couple can be seen expecting a baby.

Additionally, when Celine goes for a check-up, we can see Judy and Khalid walk out of another patient’s room. It is evident that Judy and Khalid are dating, and Judy is also pregnant. All four of them awkwardly look at each other before parting.

The ending baffled me, seriously. At least in Otis’ story, it felt like character development, but in Celine’s life, she made the wrong decision. Otis, after having casual flings with women who gave consent, finally felt TK was the one he had feelings for. Moreover, he still raises his daughter along with Patricia, but they both have clearly stated there isn’t any love between them. But Celine still accepted Richard despite knowing her boyfriend cheated only days before proposing marriage. This is madness.

Celine doesn’t confront Judy at all. Judy never gets her share of apology or forgiveness but bluntly joins Khalid. The fact that these two became pregnant messed up the movie’s ending. Yet, this is a realistic ending, though. Many people in relationships tend to chuck an incident of infidelity to save their relationship but fail to realize that the past will haunt them in the coming times. It is better to confront and let go of things in peace instead of immediately forgetting, forgiving and patching up.

The movie is a good one-time watch with nothing too special to talk about. Have you watched Disconnect the Wedding Planner on Netflix? What are your thoughts on it? Let us know!

  1. I thought this is the part that Josh( Nick mutuma) shows up and pickup where he left with Celine; but instead Richard is easily forgiven, Judy betrays her bf and with no apologies she jumps to the next guy in the creek and boom! Pregnant and happy???????????????? not my kinda movie
