Destined With You Kdrama Poster: SF9’s Rowoon and Jo Bo-ah’s Fantasy Romance Harks Back to the Fated Love Trope

JTBC has now released the first teaser poster of its upcoming Destined With You Kdrama series starring SF9’s Rowoon and Jo Bo-ah. Set to air about a month later, 이 연애는 불가항력, the South Korean series title also literally translates to “This Love is Irresistible”, owing to the fantasy romance’s premise that will be bringing forth a familiar concept of fated lovers in its promise to appeal to the audiences with the titular couple’s onscreen chemistry.

Directed by Nam Ki-hoon (Voice 3) and written by Noh Ji-sul (100 Days My Prince), the TV series’ poster situates the two pivotal cast members in the modern setting of what looks like a workplace drama. However, the tiny illustrations at the corners of the same teaser instantly catch the viewers’ eyes and pique our interest about them having a more profound meaning, relating to the show’s storyline.

And so they do. Teasing a story of irresistible romance between the two actors who share a long history, the poster hints at them being destined to be with each other, and possibly even as them being star-crossed lovers whose romantic arc couldn’t be concluded on a happy note in their previous lives.

A preview still released by Netflix.

The literal text translations on the poster also hint at a similar speculation. “Since 300 years ago, we are terribly destined”, points towards the existence of their shared past lives in a different era, resulting in the folklore-themed illustrations. What appears to be a character-driven plot, focusses on the two main characters in these posters, as Bo-ah plays the role of Lee Hong-jo, a 9th level civil servant working at Onju City Hall. Her warm-hearted smile on the poster too signals at her being an affectionate human being who’s ready to go to great lengths to help people out.

Despite her warming personality, her character design is such that she often just keeps to herself, but regardless of being alone, she’s known well enough to handle any dire situation at hand. Opposite her, SF9 Rowoon, formally known as Kim Seek-woo, will be essaying the role of Jang Shin-yu, an “ace lawyer”.

His visage is drawn out in stark contrast to the loving expression on Lee Hong-jo’s face. Appearing to be rather indifferent and stiff, his fate will be entangled in a curse, which will in turn connect his life strings to those of Hong-jo. Riddling them with a curse that goes beyond one’s imagination, the new series will unfold a snug love story that will involve mysteries of the past fuelled by a fantastical plot design.

Jo Bo-ah has previously appeared in a similar K-drama fantasy romance alongside Lee Dong-wook in Tale of the Nine-Tailed, whereas Rowoon has worked opposite Kim Hye-hoon in Extraordinary You, and The King’s Affection (historical romance) with co-star Park Eun-bin. The Destined With You poster can be viewed below, and though it doesn’t feature other cast members, the show will also be graced by Song Ha-jun and Girl’s Day’s Yura or Kim Ah-young.
