Delayed Bollywood Films: Sooryavanshi, Brahmastra and More

Ever since the pandemic started last year, every one’s life has got immensely affected. The film industry also got affected, resulting in delayed Bollywood films. Many big movies were supposed to release last year in theatres starring Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Aamir Khan and others.

When movies didn’t release in 2020, people hoped that 2021 would be different. But the second wave hit India in March, and we were back to square one, and the list of delayed Bollywood films increased. The makers have not revealed any release date for these films yet.

Take a look at the list of delayed Bollywood films:

Chehre

Rumi Jaffery’s mystery thriller Chehre stars Emraan Hashmi, Amitabh Bachchan, and Rhea Chakraborty. The film was supposed to release last year in July. But the filming got postponed due to the pandemic. Again, a new release date for April 2021 was announced. But it got pushed again, and only the makers know when it will hit the screens.

In a statement, the makers quoted, “We have decided to postpone the release until further notice. We’ve decided to bring Chehre to audience theatrically when the environment is more conducive for the experience.”

Haathi Mere Saathi

Rana Daggubati’s Haathi Mere Saathi, a Hindi version of Aranya and Kaadan, was supposed to release in March this year. But the makers pushed ahead of the release date due to the critical situation at that time. The South Indian versions of the film had hit the cinema halls.

In a statement, the makers had said, “Dear viewers, It pains us to share this news, but given the Covid-19 situation in the Hindi markets, the team of Haathi Mere Saathi has decided to hold on to the release of the film. We shall keep you posted on further developments. However, we will be releasing Aranya and Kaadan in the South markets on the 26th of March.”

Bunty Aur Babli 2

One of the delayed Bollywood films is a sequel to the 2005 film Bunty Aur Babli, called Bunty Aur Babli 2. The YRF film stars Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari Wagh. The film was slated to release on April 23, 2021. Directed by Varun V Sharma, the production house is yet to announce a new release date of this ‘spiritual sequel’.

Brahmastra

Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt fans have run out of patience to see their favourite real-life pair on the screen. Brahmastra’s delay has been happening since 2019 as the release dates have changed from August to December 2019. The last release date for the Ayan Mukerji directorial was December 4, 2020. So far, there is no update if the makers are planning to release the film or not.

83

Kabir Khan’s sports biographical film stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Harrdy Sandhu, Pankaj Tripathi, and Boman Irani. 83 is based on India’s 1983 Cricket World Cup victory. From April 2020 to June 2021, the film had several release dates, but none were the final ones. Fans are eagerly waiting to watch Singh portray Kapil Dev on screen.

Sooryavanshi

Akshay Kumar has joined Rohit Shetty’s cop universe with Sooryavanshi. Also starring Katrina Kaif, the film’s original release date was March 24, 2020. This year, April 30 was the new release date for the action starrer. But it got postponed again with no further update on its release.

Laal Singh Chaddha

An adaptation of Tom Hanks’ 1994 Forrest Gump, Aamir Khan’s next, is one of the big projects on the list of delayed Bollywood films. Also starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Laal Singh Chaddha was pushed from December 2020 release. There are reports that it will release in Christmas 2021, but there is no update.
