Marvel’s Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is streaming on Disney+ worldwide. The film stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina as Katy, and Tony Leung Chiu-wai. One of the best highlights of the film was Shang-Chi and Katy’s friendship. However, a fan has now come up with a dark theory that changes everything.
Shang Chi moves to the US as a teenager and changes his name to Shaun. When Liu’s character tells about his real identity to Katy, he talks about his training and deadly missions. His father once assigned him to kill the rival Iron Gang responsible for his mother’s death.
The fan theory suggests that Shang-Chi moved to the US not to start a new life but to kill one of the Iron Gang members. After the kill, he must’ve found out that the person has children and grandchildren. The fan believes Katy is one of the grandchildren of the Iron Gang member. Hence, out of guilt, Shang Chi becomes Shaun and gets close to Katy and her family. The Reddit theory is shocking and changes everything we know about the duo’s friendship.
While it may or may not be true, but the person’s imagination has startled us. On Reddit, the user ‘akavina’ wrote, “I believe that (edit) he lied to Katy, out of guilt (but not for the reason you think), and their connection ran deeper than he let on. The head of the Iron Gang had started a family in America decades previous and now went there to hide from Wenwu (The Mandarin) and his vast reach. I believe Shang-Chi completed his assignment and assassinated him, only to realize he had a family, kids of his own, and grandkids. I believe Katy is the granddaughter of the Iron Gang leader.”
