Dandadan Season 2 Episode 9: Still

The episode once again opens with a bizarre situation where ghostly figures of famous musicians launch an attack on Okarun and his group. This is all part of Turbo Granny’s scheme, forcing Okarun to battle them as a way to sharpen his rhythm and combat skills.

At first, the clash is completely one-sided, with Okarun being overwhelmed as the musicians’ notes strike him, setting off explosive bursts around the field. Surprisingly, Aira, in her Acrobatic Silky form, handles the challenge far better. Eventually, Okarun takes a step back and realizes his own weakness. By tuning into the flow of the fight, he discovers his rhythm and begins to strike back.

By the end, Okarun unlocks five rhythm switches and manages to defeat his foes. With this new progress, he proves he’s closer than ever to being ready for a face-off with the Evil Eye, though he still hasn’t mastered the full power of Turbo Granny. Wasting no time, Okarun goes straight to Jiji and issues a duel challenge. If he hadn’t done so, the summoned band would likely have dealt with the Evil Eye themselves.

Dandadan Season 2 Episode 9: Still

This episode starts right away with an intense fight between Okarun and the Evil Eye. They engage in a deadly hand-to-hand battle where both remain equal until Okarun starts to become the dominant one. Here, the result of his training really shows, and we get to see how he has grown as a fighter. He relentlessly punches the Evil Eye and even kicks him so hard that blood starts to come out of his nose.

However, Okarun does not have the power to continuously fight him at his full strength; that’s why he comes up with a master plan. He treats the Evil Eye just like the child he is. Previously, Okarun had realised that the Evil Eye had always been lonely and wanted to have a friend who could play with him. He even sees the act of killing humans as a way to have fun, and that is why Okarun agrees to become his very first friend. Very intelligently, Okarun tells the Evil Eye that he will not fight with him because he is weak, and only if he agrees not to hurt others, Okarun will fight him once every week.

Surprisingly, the Evil Eye agrees, and now it becomes way more controllable than before. The first half dealt with the Evil Eye problem, and the second half dealt with Maomao and her grandmother’s situation now that their house is completely demolished. Thankfully, they made some really good connections and friends who are willing to help them out in every situation possible.

Today’s episode was again very nice because the first half gave us the fight we all were expecting to see. The animation in this part was really good, and the pacing was just appropriate. The second half was heartfelt and laidback as a much-needed breather after the intense first half. Towards the end, we also get to see a new character who is going to be an important part of the story.
