Dandadan Season 1 Episode 12 Recap

Dandadan Season 2 Episode 1 Review
Dandadan Season 2 Episode 1: Still

The last episode kicked off with an unusual new roommate at the Ayase household, Hana. She is the female anatomical model, joining the cast, much to the horror of Grandma Ayase. It turns out Okarun’s search for a missing “ball” didn’t lead to the expected answers from Taro, the male model. And somehow, that chaos ended with Hana now living under the same roof as Momo.

As bizarre as things are on the surface, Okarun is battling a much more personal crisis. He becomes painfully aware of the ease with which Momo and Jiji connect. The natural flow of their conversations and casual compliments hit him hard. This kind of chemistry is something he’s never shared with Momo, and it eats away at him. His jealousy finally boils over in the form of an awkward but heartfelt confession. It’s a vulnerable moment, but before it can fully land, the story takes an even sharper turn.

What began as a relatively mild episode by Dandadan standards quickly turns into the uncanny. When the trio arrives in Jiji’s childhood hometown, a peaceful hot spring village, things feel too perfect. That is, until the townsfolk show up. Their eerie grins and hollow eyes instantly set off alarm bells. It’s clear that something sinister is simmering beneath the quiet surface.

Then comes the real horror. The demon that torments Jiji is nothing short of nightmare fuel. Just when you think things can’t get more intense, the episode ends abruptly, leaving Momo in a precarious situation and viewers desperately grasping for answers.

This episode picks up right from the part where we saw Momo getting herself into a massively dangerous situation. Some grown men attacked her while she was having a bath in the hot spring, and this segment really was scary. Thankfully, right at that moment, Turbo Granny, who somehow snuck in this trip, comes to Momo’s rescue. She effectively stops these weird men, and they flee when authorities come.

Things are not very sane with Okarun and Jiji either. They get visited by some very suspicious ladies who again look similar to the men who attacked Momo. Apparently, they all belong to the same Kito family, and it seems they are the owners of Jiji’s house. Their behaviour, especially the matriarch of this family, points towards dubious intentions and malicious purposes. It seems that because she is letting Jiji live rent-free, she is sceptical of him letting anyone visit him or going somewhere else.

However, nothing would have prepared me to predict that they would outright attack the trio and reveal the real reason behind their antics. Their family has been keeping a secret that they believe is helping the town stay safe. The god they worship must be satiated with sacrifice, or else they can bear the consequences. But how much truth does this belief hold? And what is the role of Momo, Okarun, and Jiji in this entire scenario?

Dandadan Season 2 Episode 1: Still

This was a banger first episode that introduced what we will be getting in the future, but also did not show much. We also got plenty of comedy with the serious and sinister atmosphere. Plus, the opening and ending themes were excellent. All in all, this was a really good start to hopefully an even better journey.
