Connect Ending Explained: Neo-humans, Murders and a Pharma Company?

Connect (커넥트) is a Korean thriller series directed by Takashi Miike and stars Jung Hae-in, Go Kyung-pyo, Kim Hye-joon and Jo Bok-rae, alongside other cast members. The series has 6 episodes, each with a runtime of around 50 minutes.

Disney+ describes the series as:

DONG-SOO’S ORDINARY LIFE IS UPENDED WHEN HE LOSES AN EYE TO AN ORGAN HUNTER AND GETS CONNECTED TO THE VISION OF A NOTORIOUS SERIAL KILLER.

Connect Plot

The series follows Dong-soo, a man with an uncanny ability, who, after losing his eye to an illegal organ harvesting ring, goes against an artsy serial killer.

In the end, after defeating Jin-seop, Dong-soo and I-rang run out of the building on the terrace to find a bunch of helicopters waiting for them. Are these the other Connects that I-rang had mentioned previously? There’s a high chance. Or, is it the pharmaceutical company out to get their specimens back now that the secret is out? The series ends on a cliffhanger, and thus it is difficult to say for certain whether that’s the case or not. However, it is definitely either of the two, and I have a feeling it’s the latter.

Who are the neo-humans?

Dong-soo, I-ran and other neo-humans are a bunch of experimental human beings who are ‘better’ than the usual humans we see around us. They essentially can’t die, and any and all injuries they face get better in the blink of an eye. It’s thanks to Jeongdo Pharmaceuticals’ groundbreaking biotechnology research that we got humans who have almost superhuman abilities with alien-like tentacles. However, the series doesn’t divulge much else about how some people are like this and some aren’t.

How do Dong-soo and In-seop share a connection?

After Dong-soo was abducted by the organ harvesting guys and taken to the doctor, In-seop ended up at the same doctor’s door looking rather rough and needing a patch-up. When the doctor, while taking Dong-soo apart, realised that he was a Connect and that he had left an eye behind while escaping, he decided to test the it out and put Dong-soo’s eye in In-seop.

Why is In-seop the way he is?

Some people are just psychopaths; there’s not much you can do about it. But, his terminal illness played a part in it, and he felt like since he was dying, there was nothing wrong in taking people with him. So, you know, just classic serial killer logic.
