Christian Bale on Getting Ready as Gorr the God Butcher Every Day, “You Got to Go to a Zen Place”

Christian Bale has finally joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with Thor: Love and Thunder. The actor plays the supervillain, Gorr the God Butcher. Directed by Taika Waititi, the film also stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Russel Crowe as Zeus and many others.

The movie lovers and Marvel fans are extremely excited to watch Love and Thunder for many reasons, including Bale on screen. He is one of the best Hollywood actors who has given some brilliant performances. So it would be interesting to see how he plays Gorr the God Butcher in Waititi’s film.

During the world premiere of Thor: Love and Thunder, Christian Bale was asked about being a part of the MCU, and what layer and depth did he bring to Gorr. The actor said, “It’s been a lot of bloody fun. I am in a very good company.”

About his character, Bale added, “His name is self-explanatory. And you know, he’s a butcher. But Taika, he’s a surprising gentleman. He is craz talented and he manages to have great irony and comedy. But it’s also very moving and that’s where the whole kind of nuances that you’re talking about come in the film.”

In Thor Love and Thunder trailer, Christian is unrecognisable as Gorr. When asked about how he managed to sit through hours for the make-up every day, he shared, “You got to go to a zen place. I’ve done it a few times in my career. I kind of didn’t realise I was going to do on this one actually. But the special effects make up artists, Adam Johansen, Colin and Emily they are as responsible as I am for creating this character.”

“I had a great time. They were wonderful characters and it was a nice little transition into weirdness of Gorr each and every morning,” added the actor. In the video, Bale talks about how he managed to play such a crazy villain, about a dance sequence and much more.

Thor 4 is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The film will release on July 8, 2022. It will release a day early in India, on July 7.
