Chief Detective 1958 (수사반장 1958) is a new Korean action thriller bringing the events in the life of detective Park Young-han, who teams up with his colleagues at a new Police Station to fight corruption. The drama is a prequel to the legendary Korean drama Chief Inspector which entertained the audience for 18 years.
The drama focuses on one of the main characters from the original show- Park Young-han played by Choi Bool-am. Now, the prequel brings the younger version of Park Young-han played by Lee Je-hoon. Directed by Kim Sung-hoon, the drama stars also stars Lee Dong-hwi, Choi Woo-sung, Yoon Hyun-soo, Seon Eun-soo, and Choi Deok-moon, alongside other cast members.
Chief Detective 1958 takes over MBC’s Friday & Saturday 21:50 KST time slot previously occupied by Wonderful World.

Chief Detective 1958 Episode 6 Recap
The year 1961 sees many gangsters being punished with execution and while Young-han is busy dealing with crooks who are cheating the innocent public, the others at the station are capturing rebels who are rejecting the new world. Elsewhere, Choi Dol-sik is planning on taking down Chief Yu with ex-military commander Baek Do-seok so that he can clear the path of his promotion.
Do-seok doesn’t wait for long and soon attacks Chief Yu in the darkness of the night, leaving him with barely a breath. Young-han soon finds out about this and rushes to the hospital where the rest of the team waits for the doctor to update them about Chief Yu’s condition. The doctor tells them that Chief Yu has lost a large amount of blood and they cannot say anything for now.
This leaves the team devastated as their suspicion falls on the Dongdaemun Gang. However, they soon find out that it wasn’t the work of this gang as the precision of the wounds is something a person who has been trained in the military could do. This brings the team to square one, and another bomb drops on Young-Han when he finds out that the new Superintendent is none other than the Captain whom he worked under when he was a student soldier.
Young-han draws a line between himself and Do-seok and gets back to working on Chief Yu’s case. Nam-sil overhears their conversation and tells them that Chief Song would know something about this as he has been following Chief Yu every time the latter wrote a letter. The team approached Chief Song and got him to speak up about the same.
Later that day, while Dol-sik is helping Do-seok form connections with powerful people in town, Chief Song tells the team how Chief Yu was involved in investigating the pro-Japanese. Choi Dol-sik is one of them and Chief Yu couldn’t see such an individual gain any more power. Thus, he tried to take down Choi Dol-sik and other pro-Japanese which became the reason for his condition today.
The team is angered by this information and turns to Young-han for guidance, but he tells them to lay low and not do anything for now. The next day, Young-han takes action all by himself and tries to arrest Choi Dol-sik, only to be caught and taken back to the station. Do-seok soon arrives there and reprimands him for his actions, but Young-han is hell-bent on questioning Dol-sik about Chief Yu’s case.
The two tell him that he cannot suspect Dol-sik as the victim hasn’t woken yet. Right then the doors of the room open and Chief Yu arrives to save the day.
Chief Detective 1958 Episode 7 Prediction
With Chief Yu’s arrival, Unit 1 finds its support and begins attacking Dol-sik and the Sinkwang Society. However, it isn’t as easy as it seems as they relentlessly work on turning the tides only to stop when Do-seok makes his move and forces them to stop their investigation. Meanwhile, Chief Yu tells Young-han to give up on fighting but the latter is not ready as they’ve worked hard to get to this point.
Elsewhere, Do-seok is all in to make sure he defeats Unit 1 once and for all, while the team understands that Chief Yu’s actions are a result of a deal he has made with the pro-Japanese. And so, while Do-seok celebrates his victory for the time being, Young-han reassures him that justice will surely be carried out.
