Chief Detective 1958 Episode 10 Recap
Young-han is about to fall from the height but Kyeong-hwan has got his back and catches on to the rope on time. Hee-sung detects the movements outside the window and tries to exert more pressure, however, Young-han breaks through the window and stops Hee-sung on time. He then arrests him for attempted murder and the murder of the young girl.
Elsewhere, Do-seok strikes a deal with Hee-sung’s father Jung Byung-pil, with Hee-sung’s crime as one of the cards that he plays. He also lured him by assuring his help in getting Pachinko machines into the country. Byung-pil is unable to refuse Do-seok and accepts his conditions. Meanwhile, Do-seok is happy but soon turns serious when he gets the news that Unit 1 has caught Hee-sung.
He rushes to help Hee-sung out of this but is stopped by the team who tell him that Hee-sung was caught red-handed and that trying to help him will only get Do-seok into trouble. Young-han then warns Do-seok that he won’t be free for long as their next target is him. News of this reaches Byung-pil who tries to contact Do-seok to find out what happened, however, the latter is now busy trying to save his own life.

Meanwhile, Young-han and Sang-sun go to get Nam Jung-gil’s testimony so that they can prove Hee-sung’s crime. With a lot of convincing, Young-han is finally able to get Jung-gil to open his mouth and reveal that it was Hee-sung’s idea from the very beginning to get girls from the factory to play with and later pay them to keep their mouths shut. However, the deceased was an accident when opium didn’t work on her and she fought back.
Young-han then tells Jung-gil that he needs to give his testimony in court but he is not ready due to fear of Hee-sung’s father. Young-han is back to square one as without Jung-gil’s testimony it will be hard to keep Hee-sung in custody. Right then, Nan-sil arrives with news that she has convinced the group’s previous victims to meet them.
Young-han rushes to meet the girls, informs them about the deceased, and requests them to make a testimony in court. However, the victims are reluctant as they wish to forget about the horrid memories that the men forced on them. Young-han is unable to convince them and accepts their decision. Right then, Hye-ju passes on a letter from the deceased’s mother to the victims which is filled with hope for their better future.
This makes them break down and they finally decide to give their testimony in court. One of them also tells Young-han that when she tried to report the case at a police station, she was warned by Do-seok to never enter a police station if she wanted to keep her life. Elsewhere, Do-seok decides to run away as soon as possible and demands 10 million hwan from Byung-pil in exchange for bringing Jung-pil to him.

Byung-pil accepts his request but orders his men to get rid of Do-seok when he comes for the exchange. Meanwhile, Inspector Nam Sung-hoon who is at the hospital finds Jung-pil missing and rushes to inform Chief Yu about it before rushing behind the perpetrator. Chief Yu immediately calls the bookstore and informs Young-han about the same and the two begin their wait for further information from Sung-hoon.
Soon, Sung-hoon calls Chief Yu and tells him that the perpetrator has arrived at the Jeongham Cathedral and the teams soon arrive at the cathedral. Sung-hoon is about to enter the cathedral himself but stops when he sees a group of men enter the building. The men surround Do-seok and his accomplice and try to take him out, however, the men are not easy to trifle with as they fight back. This creates havoc in the cathedral, and when Young-han arrives at the scene he hears a gunshot.
Chief Yu also arrives with Unit 2’s Soo-man and Ji-seob and Young-han tells them to prioritise saving the civilians’ lives. The team heads inside while Do-seok is fighting Byung-pil’s men. They try to stop the ongoing gunfight and Do-seok takes this as a chance to get hold of a civilian to escape from the place.
The police team get the civilians out while capturing Byung-pil’s men, while Young-han rushes behind Do-seok. Sang-sun, Ho-jeong and Kyeong-hwan rush to help capture Do-seok and his accomplice. However, Do-seok has captured a pregnant woman, reminding Young-han of the past. He tells Young-han to throw his gun and kick it towards him.
While Young-han thinks of his next move, he spots Ho-jeong nearby and does as Do-seok tells him. This creates an opening and the two save the woman, but Do-seok ends up shooting Young-han on the shoulder. The two then get into a brawl and Young-han makes sure to win this fight and put handcuffs on Do-seok’s wrists.

Elsewhere, Sang-sun is trying to stop Detective Kang from taking Jung-pil away but it is only with Kyeong-hwan’s help that he is finally able to stop the man. The men are finally captured and thrown into prison with the final judgement giving hard punishments to Hee-sung and Do-seok. Cheers are heard in Jeongnam Police Station as the punishment brings back the air of justice which they all fought for.
However, Young-han is not completely satisfied as Byung-pil manages to escape punishment. However, Hye-ju makes him realise that he has made this world a slightly better place for his children which is what matters and this is not something to be sad about. This refuels Young-han with new enthusiasm as he spreads the same words with his team.
Soon, Young-han meets ex-convicts who have turned for the better and helps them begin a new life. Later, he finds out that Chief Yu has been promoted into the new Superintendent which becomes another reason to celebrate in the police station. Chief Yu then chooses Young-han as the new Chief of Unit 1, and with this begins the journey of Chief Park and his team.
Back in the present, Young-han meets the same ex-convicts whom he helped start a new and better life. The men thank Young-han for all that he has done for them and reminisce about the days spent with the Unit 1 team. Remembering their friends who are no longer around, the men share some drinks, food and memories.
The next day, Young-han visits his old teammates at the graveyard where he talks about how much he misses them these days and how their children have been visiting him. He sits there and ends up sleeping until dusk after which he gets up, salutes them, and leaves.

Chief Detective 1958 Episode 10 Review
The show has finally come to an end but we all know that this prequel has made a special place in our hearts and is now tempting us to see the original 1971 show. Chief Detective 1958 has truly been a beautiful journey which had everything that could captivate the audience and we got to see a glimpse of the show that did the same to the audience a few decades back.
Now talking about this prequel, we have to begin with the wonderful assembly of actors who played these characters so wonderfully that made us see their faces in the final scene where the old Young-han says goodbye to them in the grave. This one scene was enough to bring tears to our eyes, and we couldn’t stop imagining the actors of this prequel when Young-han comes to meet them.
Next, we have the plot and the wonderful stage that was set up which took us back into the past. There was no hint of awkwardness as the smooth-sailing timeline kept us wishing to see more of these characters. Every set-up was perfect and we could see the changing time in these few weeks which was an experience in itself.
Altogether, I can go on about this show with the bottom line being that it has become a show that will now be unforgettable for a long time.
