Cheat Episodes 1-4 Recap and Review: Near Misses and False Accusations Set the Stakes High

Netflix recently released Cheat Episodes 1-4 on their platform. It is a reality competitive TV series hosted by Danny Dyer with quiz master Ellie Tyler. The four episodes released were all around 30-45 minutes long and extremely British. There are a total of 12 episodes, with the next four releasing soon. It is a quiz show where contestants are allowed to cheat. The players are allowed to reveal the answer with the press of a button.

In the first episode, the hosts, Ellie and Danny, introduce the game and how it works, explaining the rounds. The first round consists of 4 contestants. This episode had Devan, Jess, Yasmina and Mark. They were all asked four questions each, building the pot of money from scratch. For every right answer, it is £1,000 gained; for every wrong answer, it is £1,000 lost. Contestants can call out each other if they think they have cheated. At the end of the round, the contestants had amassed £12,000, because they got two answers wrong.

At the end of this round, the host, Danny, revealed how many answers were cheated and were removed from the pot. There were five answers that were cheated, so the pot came down to £7,000. Mark was the most accurate cheater hunter, which means he made the most right accusations of cheating. He was allowed to kick out one contestant, and he chose Devan. All of Devan’s cheated and wrong answers increased the pot to £10,000. Now, the three players go to round 2, where each right and wrong answer is worth £3,000.

The players are once again asked 4 questions each. However, this time when they call out their opponent for cheating, they check that in real-time. If they are found cheating, the amount will not increase. After 12 questions, Jess was declared the cheater hunter and promptly kicked out Mark. After he was kicked out, the roster increased from £28,000 to £31,000. Going to the final round are Yasmina and Jess. They go head to head in a death match, where every wrong answer and wrongly called out cheat will lead to them losing all the money.

In the end, Yasmina correctly called out Jess cheating after four questions, leading to the former winning the first episode. She went home with £31,000. Quickly following this, the next episode invited Obi, Anna, Deborah and Dan. In the first round, they managed to get £7,000 after removing all the cheated money. Dan was kicked out of the competition by Anna; she was declared the cheater hunter for that round. In the next one, Deborah, Obi and Anna got about £36,000 after the cheated money was deducted.

However, once again, Anna was declared the cheater hunter and kicked out Deborah, who brought £6,000 back into the roster, taking the amount to £42,000. Obi and Anna go head to head, but Anna calls the cheat wrong, making Obi the winner. The third episode brings the contestants Lithemba, Nicolette, Leo and Ricky. The first round brings the total to £7,000 after Lithemba is kicked out and Nicolette is declared the cheater hunter. She goes ahead with Leo and Ricky, bringing the total up to £19,000 after Nicolette once again kicks out Leo.

She goes head to head with Ricky, who fails to catch her bluff, but she catches him and wins the amount. Dani, Josh, Shakina and Luis come to the fourth episode and rack up a perfect amount before it is reduced to £13,000 when Josh is eliminated, and the cheated money is deducted. In the second round, Dani kicks out Luis, and the total goes up to £37,000. Dani and Shakina go head to head, but Dani answers the first question wrong and essentially forfeits the game to Shakina.

Cheat Episodes 1-4 Review

The show has quite an interesting premise and even has enthusiastic hosts who are willing to make the show interesting. However, every round has so many complicated rules that it would never make for a simple, brainless couch watch. The show’s creators expect people to pay full attention to the things happening in the show.

It is extremely British, with slang and language only found in that part of the west. Meanwhile, most of the contestants seem relatable and from different backgrounds. There is variety in the show, and it doesn’t become boring too quickly. However, following the rules and the loopholes are a little tricky.

But when the rules do make sense, it becomes an interesting watch. As this writer was getting to understand the rules and the tone of the game, the episodes were over. There is a whole week of waiting before audiences can see the game being played smoothly. This was just the beginning, and it felt a little choppy because of the lack of understanding, but it has major potential to be a good show. The hosts are a little corny, but that is not something unexpected from a reality show and a competitive one at that.
