Change Days Season 2 Episode 9 Review: Going in Circles

Change Days (체인지데이즈) is a Korean dating reality TV series with hosts Jang Do-yeon, Code Kunst, Yang Se-chan and Heo Young-ji. Change Days season 2 episode 9 has a runtime of 62 minutes.

The couples featured in Change Days season 2 include  Lee Jeong-hun and Choi Hui-hyeon, Kim Tae-wan and Kim Hye-yeon, Choi Yun-seul and Min Hyo-gi, and Kim Do-hyeong and Kim Ji-yu.

Netflix describes the series as:

AT A ROMANTIC GETAWAY, REAL-LIFE COUPLES ON THE BRINK OF BREAKING UP CHOOSE BETWEEN MENDING THEIR CURRENT RELATIONSHIPS OR PURSUING NEW FLAMES.

– Change Days Season 2 Episode 9 review contains mild spoilers –

Change Days season 2 episode 9 starts with a blowup waiting to happen. If everyone remembers the last episode – Tae-wan had bravely opted to spy on his girlfriend going on a date – it’s a disaster waiting to happen, guys. And as you see it going down, you can see the cringe in literally everyone associated with this trainwreck. It doesn’t help that Tae-wan can’t explain why he did it, causing a misunderstanding and making Hye-yeon rightly annoyed.

With this trainwreck as the first scene of the episode, the drama goes down for the rest of the episode. Change Days season 2 episode 9 is the episode for the couples to talk – we know this won’t end well, don’t we? And, it really does not.

Fraught with misunderstandings and frustrations, most of these couples were already on the brink of a breakup. Being honest is probably a good idea for most, but after how the episode starts, I honestly don’t know whether taking a break would be the best course of action for most of these people or talking to a couple’s counsellor.

And let’s be honest, not one of these people is without their faults. Of course, maybe one person has more fault than the other, but regardless, it’s just so messy. You tear your hair wondering why they don’t just listen to each other’s words and rather choose to make thoughtless decisions. It’s maddening and annoying.

That being said, there are some great moments of communication between the couples that I am still shocked happened. But that’s only for a minute. Afterwards, every single conversation starts going in circles – it’s the same discussion these people have had over the last 8 episodes, and it gets a dedicated episode this time around.

Thanks to that, the series now seems repetitive. No one really makes much progress with the conversations that they are having with their spouses, and you get annoyed with these conversations because they get their egos in the way of properly listening to the other person. It’s honestly sad watching adults acting this way, but then again, relationships are complicated and when you start dating random people in front of your spouse when your relationship is already fraught with problems.

In a rather shocking emotional turn of events, one of the couples will break your heart as they try to get their feelings out there for their spouses (and the world) to see. Some rather sad truths come to light as well, which just snowballs into something worse from there on out.

Do these people come to an understanding? Are their relationships saved in the end? I guess you’ll have to check out the episode to know for sure.

This episode is rather bland in terms of major drama as it’s just long conversations between the couples and airing the same dirty. That being said, there are some honest conversations to manoeuvre through that might just keep you thoroughly occupied.
